I found out yesterday that the General Manager at work has been wrongly clocking me out early, and it would appear that it was no accident.

She's on a tight labour budget so she is trying to cut costs - but if she achieves her budget then she receives a hefty bonus, so she is doing it for personal gain. It should/could be considered Theft/Fraud/Highly unethical!

After looking at the staff handbook it looks to me like she could be sacked for it, however it puts me in quite a difficult position because kicking up a big fuss is going to leave a nasty atmosphere around the workplace.

I'm just wondering if anyone on here has had to deal with something similar?

Mate, report it to HR. She should be sacked for that. I used to work at a place if you touched another persosn clock card you would be disciplined and sacked.

Never had this situation my self, but surely you need to make this known.
Has it cost you a lot of money? How long has she been doing it?

Sort it now before it carrys on!

How exactly has she managed to clock you out early? Do you not clock out yourself?

Well I've only been working there for about 3 months, and as far as I know it hasn't cost me a great deal but its the principle I'm most annoyed about. It just pure greed on her part and I don't see why staff should turn a blind eye to it.

At the end of the shift she enters your hours into the computer and sends it off to head office. She claimed I finished work at 23:30 when infact I didn't take payment from my last table until 12:00 and I didn't leave until 1.

She did the same with a girl I was working with on that night too.

Not quite sure what you do FF but if you took a payment at 12 will it not show on the till/audit roll that you took the sale ?

I assume there is no union presence where you work otherwise you would've been to them. If there is one, you could sound them out about joining as long as they represent you on this case.
To me, if guilty, this sounds like gross misconduct and could/should result in dismissal rather than just a warning for your GM. So you wouldn't have anything to worry about from this character afterwards(!) But I understand your concerns and worries that this is a bit of a risk.

Have you tried asking her if there has been a error?

You can always ask her for the contact details of the payroll dept as there appears to be some mistake, without sounding like you are accusing her, to see what she says.

If she doesn't budge then ask the payroll / hr dept.

This isn't between you and her - it's between her and her employer. Just report it to them and let them get on with it. You shouldn't regard yourself as "kicking up a big fuss" because I am sure that your employer will not want to be employing such a dishonest member of staff as part of their management team. You should also make a claim to them for the amount that you have been underpaid because of her actions.

If they fail to act and she is able to make things difficult for you, invoke the grievance procedure. If they fail to act, they are probably not the kind of employer that you would be wanting to work for.

Gross Misconduct.

Highly illegal in the work place, and I suspect highly illegal in a court of law.

Just steal more to make up the shortfall....

I would definitely report it... you are losing cash just so she can get a bonus.. not right!!!
