I don't want BR to be sacked. I really can't see how that is going to benefit us in the short term.

At the same time, I have absolutely zero connection to him as our manager and couldn't care less whether he stays in post or not.

What I want to see is BR being treated as a club employee. He was clearly given far too much power and, as predicted, made a mess of it. I just want him to coach the players and do his best for them. He's good at that and nothing more.

There are too many contradictory selections and weird comments for my liking. He needs to be privately called out for it and put in his place.

This is all on Rudkin and Whelan. They did this. It's hardly surprising that BR took advantage of their weakness. The contract he's on, the appointments he was allowed to make, the signings policy change etc.
I'm surprised I haven't seen more comment on here about his RL interview. It was like listening to a complete idiot - you could almost hear the cogs turning as he considered the best 'political' answer to each question.

Contrast it to Pearson, who is obviously a real person and not a robot.

I thought the same listening to him. He sounded like a fish out of water answering some of those questions.

I don't think that's the point Joe is making.

I may be speaking for him, but plenty of us that want to give Brendan more time have lots of reasons for this; the success he's given us in the past, but also the way last season played out and we still finished 8th - still one of our best ever Premier League seasons, no matter how it felt, while balancing almost a full season in European competitions (I'm talking about fixture congestion alongside the injuries, not the merit of the competition).

Brendan still has enough in credit for me and many others to give him longer, and there were genuine "excuses" for what we saw last season (although like I say, we still finished 8th).

Do things need to improve? Absolutely. I hoped we'd see a lot more from this team after a proper break & pre-season. The last 30 mins of Sunday was absolutely not good enough to throw away a result like that against a poor team, but I'm also not going to throw my toys out of the pram over the first game of the season.

That's why I'd give him 10 games. Because we need to see improvements, but if that's not happening after 10 games of a new season then the excuses will be wearing out.

It's not great - but it's acceptable.

Is it Rodgers that needs to keep his head? All this talk of going to war with the club, followed by the crazy decision not to make subs on Sunday, makes it look like he's lost his head and decided to throw away a win to make a point.

Of course, that may not be the case.

It's one game - if we go and smash Arsenal, we'll all be much more content!

I’ve met him, albeit only for 15 minutes or so. He seemed very pleasant and genuinely interested in what I was meeting him about. He gets the ppf approval mark for being nice in real life and there are many in the football world that I wouldn’t say that about.

Maybe SilverFox could help out with regards to contracts. Can an employee, with a position like Rodgers', be told to focus on particular duties and have others removed from their responsibility. Could we bring in a mentor? Or would this lead to constructive dismissal?

I'm perplexed that Brendan said he wouldn't be going to war with the club over transfers. Surely it would have been better to say that as a club we will be adhering to FFP, as all clubs should be striving for.

If I reflect purely on our achievements during Rodgers' time here I should be ecstatic, but somehow I feel we could have done more.

I can't see us sacking BR, it would be too costly. I also can't see anyone making an approach for him. I'd have thought that if he wanted a bigger club then he'd be trying to make himself covetable.

No answer to this that isn’t an essay question. It boils down to a number of different factors. Your starting point is always going to be the contract of employment and what it says the club is permitted to do.

There may be some provision that allows the club to change manager’s duties, but I would expect that it would be quite narrow (Brendan would not have signed anything without it being reviewed) and I don’t expect it would allow the club to dilute to a great extent (if at all) what he has been doing for several years now.

Generally terms of a contract of employment cannot be unilaterally changed (some things do but not this type of change). You’d look at the terms first to see what can be altered, and if computer says no, the only way then to change terms is for the parties to agree to an alteration and agree consideration for it (the price for the promise).

The EAT has held that there is an implied right in exceptional circumstances to temporarily transfer employees to do other work, provided the need for the employee to do such work is plainly justified, the work is suitable, the employee suffers no detriment (in terms of benefits or status) and the change is only temporary. That certainly isn’t going to fly.

I very highly doubt there is any provision allowing the club to dilute Brendan’s role to any significant degree. If we tried to do so unilaterally we’d be in breach of contract and it would likely result in a constructive dismissal claim.

In short, to answer your question, unless we give him a massive pay rise to be tea lady and he is happy with that, he is going to remain in his current role. :icon lol:
