Look out for the harried parent chasing the Leicester mascot before the game, it will be me trying to get my 3 yr old daughter off the pitch - she is well stoked about "playing on the pitch with the leicester"

Big up for diamonds (my local team) for helping to arrange for my daughter to be the leicester mascot for the night on her birthday.

quality, I wonder who'll enjoy it the most....

Is there a decent bar at the ground?

Diamonds Bar but apart from that theres fack all. Its in betwenn Irthlingborough and Rushden.

From The Football Internet Ground Guide.
There are no pubs within the immediate the vicinity of the stadium. However there are bars within the ground and away fans are treated to their own bar, called the Airwair bar. If you want a proper pub, you can either take the 15 minute walk into Irthlingborough, or drive down the A6 for another couple of miles to Higham Ferrers.

At the traffic island by the entrance to the ground, you will find a road leading up to Irthlingborough. If you walk up this road you will first come to a pub on your right called 'The Bull' which is quite popular with away fans. If you continue straight on past this pub, then you will reach another on your left, called 'The Horseshoe', a small comfortable pub serving real ale. A little further on from this pub is 'Mai's Chinese take away & chippy' which we found to serve good food, that we happily munched on the way back down to the ground!
Roger Paterson adds 'if you go into Higham Ferrers heading towards Rushden itself you will find a pub called the Green Dragon (located just before Higham market square on the left hand side). Here you will find a large selection of beers. They specialise in real ales and often have a good range of guest ales. An assorted food menu is also available. A little further up the High Street is 'The Griffin', with a smaller selection of beers but the restaurant is excellent and good value. The Queens Head (located on the opposite side of the road) is more basic offering regular lagers and bitters.

Alternatively you can drive to the Needle and Awl. This is probably the best place for away fans, as it offers a vast amount of ales, beers and lagers as well as good food. Driving there will take five minutes. When you exit the ground, turn left towards Rushden (on the A6),then right at the roundabout (this will have you heading towards Wellingborough on the A45). Proceed along the A45 for approx 1 1/2 miles then take the 1st exit of the next roundabout and there will be the Needle and Awl. You will find the supporters of Rushden a friendly lot'.

Been to Rushden many a time to see the stadium. Friendly club with a great little stadium.

I'm not sure that the Lincoln fans would agree that they are a friendly club. I went to the game on Good Friday and the stewards were getting bolshee with the visiting fans for no greater reason than they had "turned up all at once"!!

Quite a few angry words were spoken by stewards who first wanted the queue to go this way and then a few minutes later they wanted it to go that way. Police had to intervene when one steward was threatening to have fans arrested for doing nothing more than asking him if he had made up his mind where he wanted them to stand yet. Fans were assured by Police that they could see what was happening and suggested to the steward that he should sort himself out.

Like a lot of so-called friendly clubs, they don't deal with away fans very well if my experience is anything to go by.

Generally parking is OK either in the car park or streets close by. Getting away can be a mare though.

I go fairly often and have never had problems at the ground.

I am going to be in the main stand behind the dug out in my shirt (as will the rest of the family) with rushden friends and don't envisage any problems - will generally be singing priase for the diamonds beating of longball covscum!!!!!!

Let us know how it went and did she cry like that Newcastle lad when she had to come off. :icon_sad: ;) :icon_lol:

Thanks for the messages of support, I think mascoting will have to wait for a little longer for her. She went on the pitch at the start for a photo and was very shy due to the crowd. When we went into the tunnel to find the player she was to go out with there was stood a 7 foot lion!!!! you can guess the response she gave (clinging tight and screaming - I guess a trip to disneyland is out of the question for a while!!!).

She had fun anyway - the hot dog she ate at half time was almost as big as her.

On the pitch, most of the team looked out of depth (boys against seasoned pro's), O'grady looked like a very good player when he managet to get hold of the ball, Stearman looked good as well, and Gilbert looked comfortable if a little slow and unfit.

As for the diamonds, they were quite organised and played some good football.
