Belated thanks to anyone who signed the on-line petition to keep the Roadmender open in Northampton, sadly it looks like it's too late:

Roadmender closed
Roadmender's Board of Trustees are extremely saddened to announce the closure of Roadmender for an interim period.
All events are cancelled with immediate effect. If you have bought tickets to upcoming events take the following actions:
- Telephone your credit card company if tickets were purchased by credit card. You are entitled to a full refund.
- Contact See Tickets on 0115 9129000 if you bought tickets from the 24 hr booking line or online. You are entitled to a full refund.
- Contact point of sale if different from Roadmender. You are entitled to a full refund.
- If you have booked directly from Roadmender and left contact details with the venue you will be contacted by Roadmender's insolvency practicioners BRI. You may not be able to get your tickets fully refunded.
- Alternatively you or can make representations to the insolvency practicioners on 01604 754352. You may not be able to get your tickets fully refunded.
The future of Roadmender was called into question by Northamptonshire County Council's recent decision to withdraw funding. At the time the Northamptonshire County Council were making their decision we advised them that, without their commitment to invest in 2006/07, to make such a decision would jeopardise the future of the Charity.
The Arts Council announcement to disinvest from April 2006 meant a withdrawal of funding which accounted for 44% of the venue's entire grant income. This made the Northamptonshire County Council's investment all the more critical.
action of the Trustees that the Company cannot, by reason of its liabilities, continue its business and that therefore the Company be wound up. BRI Business Recovery and Insolvency have been instructed to deal with the winding up of Roadmender.
Roadmender has been approached by potential supporters. Investment from such supporters cannot be secured if their investment is to pay for outstanding debts. Projects for young people cannot be delivered within such a financial environment.
The Trustees of Roadmender acknowledge the support that has been given over the years by Northamptonshire County Council and also the unswerving support of Northampton Borough Council.
The value of the work of Roadmender is recognised as important to the community as evidenced by the 7,000 signatures received in the recent petition. Young people have made it clear that Roadmender is something that they want and value.
It is with this in mind that the Trustees' intention is to identify a new vehicle with new partners, which will support Roadmender to continue to provide music and arts opportunities for the youth of Northamptonshire.

Apparantly a lot of the financial problems the Roadmender had are down to Ronan Keating! The Northants council put on a balloon festival of all things, where nice boy Ronan appeared - they lost a load of money as he charged a fortune and nobody turned up. To make savings on this years budget they chopped the 50k grant to the Roadmender. Yet another reason to smack Ronan Keating if I see him.

not that im defending him but how did he know no-one was going to turn up-his fee is probs standard and the guys there should of realised hes not going to draw the crowds in before booking him.

Seriously though, you're dead right - Northants council (this happened under a new Tory council by strange coincidence) fecked things up good and proper. And so we now lose one of the best small live music venues in the midlands.
