I wouldnt be to defeatest just yet, anything can happen. Extremely unlikely but you never know. Wasnt it Martin O'neil first season in charge that we suddenly had a surge up the table before beating Watford on the last day to clinch a play-off place. The rest, as they say, is history.

Always look on the bright side of things... at least F@R£$T are going down... besides, i still believe we can mount a run together, tho it seems unlikely now, but did it seem likely that we were to get promoted under MON after the Sheff Utd game?
It may be fate that we are playing them again come this tuesday... watch this space.

Levein has got 12 points from his first 9 games.

O'Neill got 9 points from his first 9 league games (and lost 5-0 in the cup to Man city).

The infamous Sheff Utd game was O'Neill's 18th game in charge. But after that we won 6 of our remaining 8 games to get into the play offs.

So history has shown us there's no point giving up at this stage.

Crystal Palace were in the relegation zone at this stage last season and still got promoted through the playoffs - anything is possible!

It's just not probable. :(

We need new players and I can't see any coming until the summer.

Loosing, and with players giving poor performances it's now that we see how good the manager is.

The previous managers have not shown any idea of trying to turn things around during a 'bad spell'. CL probably won't be able to make poor players into world beaters but he should be able to make them play at their best. (Unlike some previous managers)

With out much prospect of new faces, It's gonna be interesting to see what CL does when current players don't show interest on the pitch. It's not a case of who he brings in but how he makes 'dodgy' players perform. CL is, so we're told, not a mild mannered geezer when putting his point over.

The rest of the season is gonna be well worth watching IMO.

With the squad we have now I'm desperately struggling to see a way forward, where exactly do we go from here.IMOwe have have some piss poor players not only are they piss poor but they dont care less about the club .Take Gerry Taggert for example hardly the most skillful of players but he went out there and played for the shirt along with 10 others.Makin,Dublin,Keown,Scowcroft,Dabizas,Blake,Gudjohnsson,Gemmill to name but a few don't care if we win or lose.CL talked about only wanting players who want to play for the club, now is the time to walk the walk and drop those who obviously don't care and I believe he will.

Spot on for me highland.I don't see where the blind faith is coming from.We are poor in far to many areas to get promotion :(

same here. and tbh i think promotion wouldn't be a good thing to happen!!

after all,Levein would have to have a massive clear-out,just like Adams' did the season we went back up,bring in a whole new group of players which would need time to gel etc... it didn't work last time,it isn't working this time and it won't work next time!!

better to let Levein figure out who he wants to keep, who he wants to bring in,and hopefully, get the team playing something that at least resembles football before the end of the season until he CAN make those changes!

I think that this result confirmed a season of mid-table mundanity.

Just thinking earlier last season we were crap but we ten times better than this. Watching Charlton versus Southampton, two rubbish teams but the quality of Football was a lot more better than City.

We wern't crap last year we didn't deserve to go down - not to open a whole can of worms or anything but we wern't crap.

(ie if we had stayed up like we'd deserved to we'd have kept players like Bent Dickov Ferdinand maybe even Muzzy and been able to build on it all, but that didn't happen and now look where we are...)

What makes you think we deserved to stay up?

We finished in the bottom 3.

You might think we're 'unlucky' because we gave away so many leads. But isn't that just because we weren't good enough, whether it was a mental thing, fitness or whatever, it still wasn't good enough.

I do not understand this 'disaster to be promoted' business. It would mean a hell of a lot more money. CL can bring in the players he wants to rebuild the team with. The donkeys are going no matter what division we are in. There will be a lot of new faces, Championship or Premiership. The youngsters will fight for a chance to play against a Premiership team.
We get bigger gates, and more money, for being in the Premiership, and crucially we guarantee another two years 'parachute' money if/when we come down again! Who wants to play in the Championship again next year?!

Perfectly observed.

Agree that you take promotion if its poss. But we are simply not good enough with these players to even make a challenge for it. Far to many of them are not ready to die for the cause.

no-one will give up yet, (although the players haven't turned up all season...) but being realistic, to expect a promotion or play off place is pie in the sky stuff. we're not very good, that's the bottom line!

i didn't mean i wouldn't take promotion if we got it but i was making the point that it would mean a wholesale reshuffle like the previous seasons which doesn't bode well for the forthcoming campaign.
as much as i want to see this Club back in the top flight i would much rather it be with a squad which CL is convinced can at least compete with the 'average' Premiership Clubs, and not one which gets regular 3-0 or more deficits against their name.
imo IF(and at this stage it is looking increasingly unlikely) we somehow manage to squeeze our way up,i honestly think it will be detrimental to the club overall. maybe i want something similar to the MON years again, where we had several seasons of grinding out the results and continually upsetting the 'established' sides. but i want to get the basis of a side able to to do that first, and i think we all know most of this lot won't be here next season if it can be helped.

oh i don't know........i want the money the Prem can give us....maybe it's a good thing we are playing so crap that we can't get our hopes built up anyway!!

Agree. The Prem isn't like a one-off cup game, if you get knocked out of the cup u can say it was luck that your team didnt perform on the day, but over a 38 games period, if you finish in the bottom 3, u r simply not good enough, whatever people say about playing better than some teams that finished above us, at the end of the day, they got more points than we did, thus deserved to stay up and we were not good enough to stay up.
