Serious Concern

I've now been to 4 pre-season friendly to date and I’m sad to sad I have serious concerns about our strike force. Against Kettering it was obvious Chris O’Grady will never be the answer to our prayers, this was then backed up by his performances against Celtic, Inter Milan and Oxford yesterday. But he is the least of our worries. De Vries rarely saw the ball against oxford, and when he did he looked nervous worried and confused. He did not know where to go with the ball or what to do with it and as a consequence he was tackled, and whilst he may of scored a goal that was more down to a suburb through ball than his skill (He looked like he’d cocked up with that goal as well after turning around twice on the spot). And then we look to Dublin, a veteran but no less someone who should know what he’s doing, and whilst yes he may know what he’s doing, his partnership with De Vries is lacklustre. Dublin wither seems to have a problem with De Vries or just allows him to do the work – I say this because during the first half yesterday Dublin was pretty anonymous but after MDV went off and was replaced by Chris O’Grady, Dublin became a much better player.

Over all I have deep concern about our ability to score goals. Yes we beat Oxford 3-1 yesterday, but it was by no means convincing – infact at times we looked the worse side. Oxford Unt are hardly Inter Milan or Celtic they are a lower league opposition and a team we should of easily beat 5 or 6 nil. Sometimes it’s easy to say ‘oh they were unlucky’ but yesterday with a full squad out we still failed to create a number of good opportunities, which could have been converted into goals.

This is why we must sign a new striker before Saturday and we must improve as a team! Otherwise I fear another season like last.

Connolly SHOULD be playing on Saturday... I have faith with Connolly and De Vries, but it's beyond that I am worried. CL knows we need a new striker though and is working on it. He'll get someone. Don't worry, be happy ;)

What we also have to remember is that it is imperative CL brings in the right man, at the right price, there is no point in making a panic buy just to appease fans in the short term. I like the way CL brings players on board with a long term perspective and I am confident that when he does bring a new striker on board, he will be the right player for us and will add quality to the squad. We can ill afford CL to make a rash decision and sign the wrong type of player, we must be paitent and be confident in what CL is trying to build.

I would nt worry too much with regards to freindlies however I an concerned that most people semm to writing that de vries is pants! any more news on incoming strikers I THINK TOP 10 will be good for us

Pre season rarely shows they way the season is going to actually go. I am also a little concerned on how the strike will fair espcially when DC is not there through transfer, injury, suspension or other.

However I believe that with DC and one good signing we will be ok. However if DC does go then we will really struggle to find two new strikers in the current transfer market.

De Vries has got 3 goals in the 4 pre season games he's started i believe. If not 4 games then its only 5.

Either way you can't argue with that ratio at the moment.

I just hope MdV scores on Saturday as that can only help his confidence, otherwise it won't be long before the fickle brigade get on his back - and then it's all over for him.

Ditto Micky Adams who was heard to be quoted as saying that 'Micky Adams is seriously concerned about MDV's confidence!'

Yeah, sorry, I take that back. Very insulting. How about:

You bunch of blind, spineless drones!

There, that's much better.

:icon_lol:

Again, I feel I should apologize for the sh**p remark. It's the most disgusting five-letter four letter word since they invented F****t, the worst of all the six-letter four letter words. ;)
