Why I want Big Les - Sam
Last posted: Saturday 3 July 2004 12:35
WANDERERS boss Sam Allardyce today told the sceptics precisely why he is planning to add 37-year-old Les Ferdinand to his Premiership squad.

"Twelve goals in 28 games," the Wanderers boss said, highlighting the veteran former England striker's impressive goals-per-game ratio for Leicester last season, "and that was in a struggling side.

"When Les Ferdinand plays, he scores goals -- he scored two against us as I recall -- and he'll be a valuable squad member."

Indeed, Ferdinand's Premiership dozen for the Foxes came from just 20 starts and those strikes against Wanderers -- one apiece in the 2-2 draw at Burnden and the 1-1 draw at the Walkers Stadium -- added to previous successes against the Whites during his successful top flight spells at Newcastle and Spurs.

Ferdinand is expected to become Wanderers' second summer signing early next week, joining former Leeds striker Michael Bridges.

Looks like Sir Les is signing for Bolton. Ah well thanks for the memories and trying your hardest to save us from relegation last season!

You will be remember as the model player and for them bullet free kicks. Also for the goal that gave us hope that we could stop up when we beat Birmingham 1-0 after the La Manga set-up!

Cheers Les!

I think somebody owes somebody an apologie?

we havent managed to hang on to any of our best players, they just seem to go with no fight being put up to keep them, good luck les and thanks for your efforts

Les going to Bolton

MA has failed in his attempts to persuade any of our better players that Leicester is the place to be.

He is trying to persuade us fans that we are beginning a new exciting era, but it obviously isnt impressing our players, or us fans!!!

And money is not the main issue because some of the players eg Les certainly wont be on much more than we can offer

Perhaps MA thinks that he won't do much for us this year because of his operation, he might not be as good as last season

It has looked l for quite a time now that whilst MA looks credible & talks a good line on Sky interviews etc it appears to be a different story with players - players (good & bad) seem anxious to leave - not many with any alternatives seem to want to sign.

Gotta remember that when Sir Les joined us he said he wanted his final season as a player in the Premiership & not to suffer relegation like last season (West Ham) and that was his motivation.

12 months on he probably feels much the same

i would of gone back to qpr if i was him. bolton only play 1 up front and they have a lot of strikers.

agreed, but he should have stayed with us, dion for one half, ferdinand for the other. would work 45 minutes each. And he wont play at bolton, they have davies, bridges, jardel ,gianpopolus, frandsen, ferdy wont get a game, and he dont have the legs to play as a lone striker.

but thanks for all the memories, we could have easily of got those 7 points needed to survive, wolves game, totenham twice and many others.

notice how it says EX leicester striker??? its like he was never gonna play for us next year! dont know if his legs will last in the prem another year!
