has anyone on here got it? the old man is thinking of using them instead of Virgin Media, and also going wireless and getting the telephone deal-is it any good? what problems if any have people had?

mines been fine its quite quick, but i do know of a couple of people who had serious probs keeping it connected. have no idea what they were but they both changed back to virgin.

I switched from Virgin a few weeks ago

All went through easy as pie, free wireless thingymebob and all that, and I've had no problems at all

However - I only use it for basic usage etc., and don't do loads of heavy duty downloading etc. - nothing technical or complicated. I couldn't say whether that side of things is quick enough for all that sort of shenanigans

I've also got the Sky phone deal thingy which has turned out to be a bargain

mines been fine when ive been downloading shit and say watching youtube @ the same time. if thats of any help:102:

I've just signed over to them, Phone, TV and Broadband. Saving myself about £35.00 per month as i dropped Skysports.

That just about covers the increase in diesel i pay each month.........

Broadband is fine, however they do force you to use their SMTP server to send emails via Outlook (I'm sure there is a work around) which wouldn't be too bad, except for the fact they changed their SMTP server name nearly 3 months ago, and every one they give me doesn't work. Consequtly I have been without Outlook email for three months, even though I have my own SMTP server.

They're not using their own SMTP servers anymore, they've handed it over to Google.

Double check which outgoing port outlook is configured to use as well, it'll probably default to port 25 but most providers stopped using that port long ago as an antispam measure.

Cheers Mackster I'll try that tonight. All their tech support have done is give me variations on smtp.tools.sky.com to try.

After a bit of hunting:

smtp.tools.sky.com through port 465
incoming is pop.tools.sky.com port 995

The problem is I don't use my sky email address, I have a domain that I purchased and my hosting company provides an incoming pop address and outgoing smtp at pop.mydomain.com and smtp.mydomain.com. These settings only appear to work if you use your sky email address

Many ISPs will only let you use their own smtp facilities. You can use it, but use your purchased domain address as your Reply-address and poll your own pop box for incoming mail/replies.

That's what I'm attempting, but it won't send with skys smtp. Maybe I have the wrong port. I will use the one Mack suggested when I get home and see if I have an luck.
