has anyone on here got it? the old man is thinking of using them instead of Virgin Media, and also going wireless and getting the telephone deal-is it any good? what problems if any have people had?
Broadband is fine, however they do force you to use their SMTP server to send emails via Outlook (I'm sure there is a work around) which wouldn't be too bad, except for the fact they changed their SMTP server name nearly 3 months ago, and every one they give me doesn't work. Consequtly I have been without Outlook email for three months, even though I have my own SMTP server.
They're not using their own SMTP servers anymore, they've handed it over to Google.
Double check which outgoing port outlook is configured to use as well, it'll probably default to port 25 but most providers stopped using that port long ago as an antispam measure.
Cheers Mackster I'll try that tonight. All their tech support have done is give me variations on smtp.tools.sky.com to try.
The problem is I don't use my sky email address, I have a domain that I purchased and my hosting company provides an incoming pop address and outgoing smtp at pop.mydomain.com and smtp.mydomain.com. These settings only appear to work if you use your sky email address
Many ISPs will only let you use their own smtp facilities. You can use it, but use your purchased domain address as your Reply-address and poll your own pop box for incoming mail/replies.
