Looked at getting basic SKy about a year back and they couldn't help me because I don't have a landline phone contract. Does anyone know if this is still the case? Apparantly it was to do with interactive services so you needed a phone line plugged into back of receiver. I thought b0llox to that.

Thats rubbish, we have Sky in our house with NO phone line what-so-ever! I think we had to pay £20 at the start for some reason (no phoneline) but not sure what that is for!

I've got multi room and the phone cable has been damaged for 2 months. for the last 2 months Sky have charged me £107 monthly subscription for the pleasure of not having the extra box connected.

They say this is to prove the additional box is at my house. I've been outside all morning trying to get the cable over the roof as it is to far away to have the cable through the house.

Wankers. I also got a negative star against my name on their computer systems for telling them what I thought. So sometimes when I call I'm asked to watch my language. Patronising Wankers!!

I think they changed the terms and conditions a couple of years ago to insist on people having landlines.

But you should be able to get a second hand Sky box and a viewing card for the free channels without having a phone line.

ahh tis true that one, had to ring up for prem plus, I was more going on about how you can still use the champions league multi match thingy and also play Monkey Business on Animal Planet!!

Had it around 6-8 months! Its sweet, no problem what-so-ever!

Just rang them up and they can now install without a landline but one off charge of £25 applies.

Does anyone know if Sky Broadband is 1) Any good? and 2) Is it a ADSL or cable connection? In other words, do I need a phone line for that?

You need a phone line. Dunno if it's any good, they "installed" my sister's over two months ago and it's still not working.

Thats OK, all I needed to know, cheers. Will definitely be giving that a miss then as we don't have a phone line, just thought it would of been a excellent money saver as we are currently paying £35 a month for NTL.
