router and its a netgear one. couldn't tell you the model though
Load up Skype and go to the
Tools menu and select
Options, click on
Advanced then
Connection. Make a note of the port number for incoming connections.
Next, click
Start, then
Control Panel, in Control Panel double-click
Network Connections.
When that loads, right-click on the connection for the router. If you connect via an Ethernet cable this will be labelled Local Area Connection, if you connect wirelessly it'll be Wireless Network Connection. When you right-click it, select
Status from the menu. Click on the
Support tab in the window that opens. Make a note of the
IP Address and the
Default Gateway address.
Open up a browser, IE, Firefox or whatever you prefer, and type in the Default Gateway address into the address bar. This will load up your router config page and will probably ask you for a username and password, Netgear is usually
Admin and
password.
When the router config loads up, look for
Port Forwarding in the menu and click on that.
What you need to do here is add a new service to the port forward list, how to do this varies from router to router but should be straightforward enough.
The service type will be TCP/UDP, the start and end port numbers will be the port number you got from Skype in step 1 and the server address is your IP address that you got from Network Connections.
