Burnley manager Steve Cotterill has announced that he'll be staying at Turf Moor despite Leicester City's interest in him.

Cotterill told his club's official website: "I'm staying at Burnley Football Club.

"I'd like to thank Leicester City for their approach for me, they are good people at a good club and I enjoyed the time I spent there [as coach] and would like to wish them all the best for the rest of the season.

"However, a lot has been built here in the last 18 months and we are continuing to build for the future at Burnley Football Club.

"I have a great relationship with the Chairman and supporters of our football club and I would like to thank all of those people who have sent me cards and letters this week, I have been overwhelmed."

Means nothing really, I can remember Brian "I am staying here" Little

The only reason Cotterill has stayed at Burnley, was because the Chairman backed him into a corner, he wouldnt allow SC to speak to Leicester, which is his right, thus forcing Cotterill into the unenviable situation of having to walk out on the club, a decision, based on past experiences, that Cotterill was unwilling to carry out.

Do not be surprised if Cotterill now signs an improved and extended contract but also do not be surprised if there is a release clause inserted, which allows him to speak to clubs if an approach is made in the future. Very similar scenario to when MON was denied permission to talk to Leeds by Elsom, there relationship was tarnished from that point and the writing was always on the wall from that point.

Beginning of the end for him at Burnley if you ask me.I feel whenever a Manager is not allowed to speak to another Club then it always unsettles them, they'd had been better off let him talk to us and then make his own mind up.Just because a Manager talks to another Club doesn't mean he will automatically go,Cotterill will always wonder what we had to offer.
