So who are we signing to fire us to the Premier League?

Ive just read on SS that Sven wont bid again for Maynard, Beckford is now out of the question, Keane gone to Galaxy, Long to West Brom, Miller to Forest, Everyone we show an interest in either doesnt want to come or has gone elsewhere.

Their has been no speculation or newspaper talk over anyone else that I can think of recently and the transfer window is closing very soon so who is it going to be? Any ideas?

Why is Beckford out of the question???

I really think we should go back in for Yakubu. To be honest, he should have been the first signing of the summer.

I know the owners have said that they don't want to be held to ransom for players, but surely it'd be cheaper to pay the reported 2.5 million for Yakubu and finance his higher wages for 2-3 years, than spending upwards of 5 million on a player (Maynard, Long etc) who would still presumably be after decent wages as well.

Especially as we paid £1m to get him on loan for six months last season.

Yakubu on 50k a week for 3 years + 2.5m is over 10m. For your maths to work, Maynard would need to on around 32k a week for 3 years.

I'd still prefer the Yak though.

I thought the problem with Yakubu was that he had changed his mind and said that he didn't want to drop down to the championship, rather than it being a wage issue.

Is he definitely on 50k a week at the minute though? And is he definitely demanding that we pay him that much a week?

Don't forget that he is also incredibly lazy and doesn't have any pashun for Lestoh

And that Alan Young does not want Mr Yakubu in the team.

He went as far as to say that had Mr Yakubu been in the team for the game against Coventry that there is no way we would have won that game.

We know Everton would sell and we now the owners would sanction the money if necessary.Sven's seen him close up and decided that he doesn't want him. If we sign him now it would be an act of
desperation. Not for me thanks.

Sell King in a swap deal for me, I'll give my all and only take £40k wage per week.

If Everton don't sell Yakubu before the end of the month, I'd expect him to return to us on loan until January. As before, it would suit all parties. I also think we were correct in not paying a transfer fee for him or the wages that he's demanding. I also think no other club will be prepared to either.

Aside from Yakubu, I still think a further move for Maynard is likely. As the days go by, Bristol will get more and more twitchy and I'd be amazed if he isn't sold before Sept. Whatever the going rate for him is on 31st August, I'd pay it. The price may well reduce towards the end of the month as long as those interested doesn't increase. However, there now has to be a very good chance that a Premier League club will do the same and we'll miss out much like we did with Long.

The lack of options for a proven goalscorer just indicates how valuable a commodity they are. Maybe we had no choice but to leave it until the last minute to recruit one, but it sure hasn't helped our start to the season.
