So you think you know about football? Then consider entering the Anorak League!

The Anorak League has been running for quite a few seasons now. To put it at its simplest, it's a quiz league run by a Leicester City fan for Leicester City fans. Over the past few seasons there have been 3 divisions with about 10-12 teams in each division - games are played on a 'home-and-away' basis, so there are about 20 games a season. Just like the real thing, there is promotion and relegation each season, divisional play-offs and a cup competition. There's even a Community Shield match, if anybody can still remember who won the respective competitions the previous season!!

Each week you play against an opponent and you have just 5 questions to answer. Three of the questions are normally something to do with City - the other two about football in general. One goal for each question correct, three points for scoring more than your opponent of the week and a single point if you get the same number right - again, just like the real thing. Of course there is little that you can do to stop your opponent scoring - you've just got to make sure that you score more than he does.

Questions are normally asked towards the end of the week and you have 7 days to answer them. There is normally a break over the Christmas period and another one around Easter, but if you are away at any other time, just ask the quiz-master for a postponement - essential at times for people who have a life!

Obviously the fact that you have 7 days to answer means that the questions might be ones that you will not have the answer for on the tip of your tongue. You can use any means to find out the answer but remember if you ask on here, everybody else will be able to see the answer and you're not going to win the match.

The questions are normally sent out via a mailing-list but if there is enough interest here, Webbo is going to set up a sub-forum to mirror the mailing list so that the questions will appear here. You must remember though to email your answers to the quizmaster because if you post them here, everybody will see them and even if you get all five right, you will still only draw your matches!

If you're interested in joining in, please pm me with your team name - no need for your team-name to reflect your identity if you don't want it to.

Any questions about the competition, don't hesitate to ask them here.

I've moved this to the LCFC forum because most of the anorak questions are LCFC related.

Cheers Jeff

I did wonder where to put it - but thought you might object if it went into the lcfc forum. Wrong again!! :icon_wink

if this is done online surely cheating is rife via google and fossils and foxes :102:
That's not cheating.

And very specifically not cheating! Even ex-winners will tell you that even with Google, oF&F and the whole of the Internet at your disposal, it's sometimes very difficult to find some of the answers.

Add the fact that the quizmaster often asks the questions in a very rare form of ancient English dialect, commonly known as Soadish, and it's often the case that nobody gets all five answers right.

It helps if you travel to matches with Paul Taylor though. :icon_wink

Maybe we could dig out some old questions to give people an idea what it's like.

go on then.

The old ****er holds very little in his head. Unless it's happened in the last month, he won't remember it.

Quite possibly correct; I couldn't possibly confirm :icon_wink - it's a shame though that you would be starting in Division Two if you decided to take part.

how many people would there normally be to a team or is it not important?

The team is one person - you, or perhaps me. Each week you play a game against another team or person.

Don't worry if you don't think you could get them all right. Three points are often received after winning games 1-0 or 2-1.

coolio.
One more thing, does the league run in parallel with the real football league & if so, does that mean we are a few weeks behind everyone else if we join now?
Or is it entirely seperate?

i've just reread your original post & I've realised I've just posted nonsense!

When does the league start Boc?
