I am a bit shell-shocked to be honest. I was speechless after the game because I couldn't for the life of me understand how we had lost that match 4-1.

Lets face it-that result shows us why we wont finish in the play-offs-a good performance in patches, but crucial mistakes and wrong substitutions (Gilbert), when it mattered. It wasn't that Sheff Utd are a better team, just that Warnock made the right subs and his team had an edge in front of goal which we lacked

love it, one game gone and we won't finish in the Play Offs... Quality.

I'm usually an optimist, and i think largely the performance was good, particularly from joey and williams, but can you honestly say you believe we will finish in the play-offs?

Yes, i can honestly say that we have a good chance of finishing in the top six, IMO.

I think this league will be extremely tough, but if we stay clear of injuries, suspensions and refereeing like today, then we certainly have as good a chance as Ipswich, Reading, Preston, Sheff Utd etc....

Why not?

I'm not writing us off after one game- we have got a chance of getting in the play-offs-provided that we show a bit more in front of goal, becasue lets face it, but for a deflection off the ref, we might never have scored. Personally I thought that going to Brammall Lane first game was one of the toughest games we could have got, and provided we play like we did today and with a bit more composure we should have a good season.

it was one of the toughest games we could have got. but we outplayed them for 80 minutes. so it shows that we are no easy game ourselves. lets start believing in our own ability and stop giving teams like sheff utd any credit.

Yes , it is hard to believe how we lost tht game 4-1, especially after 80 minutes of credible football against a side who will try to muscle a result where they can.
For long periods of the game we kept the gobby blades fans fairly quiet,
and produced some promicing moves.
But
It was clear to see that we are not completely gelled together yet as a team.
The younger players did appear to make a few silly mistakes that will rectify themselves in time.
Our heads dropped rather too quickly after the awful refereeing decision that awarded united a rather dubous second penalty.
so in my opinion. its too early to feel depressed, pissed off or let down.
with a little more luck, settling in together more and a bit more growing up we do have the makings of what could be quite an excellent young team.

bring on the potters

Superb call mate

I agree with Lako we played very well, the only difference between the two teams were the benches, if Hughes, Tiatto and Weso would have been available our bench would have been a lot stronger and therefore given CL more options especially in midfield. Up to 80 minutes I think CL had done everything right, once we went 2-1 down we had to throw caution to the wind and we lost our shape and they hit us on the break. I truly believe that on the basis of yesterday's performance that this season is going to be a massive improvement on last year. Players such as Williams and Joey who struggled last season, both looked very good yesterday surely this shows the influence CL is having on the club. The football we played was very good and we created chances, forget the result it was a freak, I think we looked in pretty good shape and should at least be challenging for a play off spot.

Is Hughes back for the Stoke game? If he I think I'd put him in for Wilcox. Joey and Williams both had a really good game yesterday so it would be a shame to drop either of them.

As I ahve said elsewhere on this forum that was a freak result and every team has one in a season and lets just hope thats ours. As for writing off our play off chances, you have to be joking. Its far too early, we are a new team learning how each other plays. It will come good.

Agreed.

I think part of the problem is the last premiership campaign. it was said then, that had the games been 80 minutes long we would have got champions league. (i recall seeing that somebody had actually done the math to prove this) However a game is usually longer than 90 minutes and a succesfull team needs to compete for the whole of it.

I'm not saying the current leicester team can't, i hope they can and its too early to judge, but i can understand why people are worried.

to be fair i was impressed with a lot of our play the Stearman/Sylla partnership in the first half was superb

True that was worked out. IMO its a menatlity problem not an ability problem

i think you have to take into account we have practically changed our entitre team for the third succesive season so its not just a case of the new players geling with the old but they all have to get to know how each others strengths and weaknesses and how they play, i still think that this is the most exciting group of players we have had for a long time and once they start to click we will play some goos football

You also have to take into account that before the referee give a very very dubious Pen we were dominating the game and would have at least got a draw. The Pen decision destroyed our concentration and hence the 4-1 score line. Im fully confident we will finish in the top 10!!

i couldnt agree more the score line didn't do us justice for how well we played for the majority of the game
