It seems that the drive towards 'youth and the future' is going to carry on despite the sacking of CL. Alan Sheehan hasn't been able to make that problematic left-back spot his own, but clearly City think he's good enough to give him a new two year contract which ties him to the club until the summer of 2008.

Anyone else think this is strange though, considering that we do not have a manager, why do it now?

I expect the contract was offered before we sacked Levein... and you can't withdraw it after you've offered it... well not for so many days anyway.

Too true mate, CL did say that he would be a good player but not quite ready.

BTW, the 'come' thing on the other thread is just nasty!!! :038:

Ooops sorry... want me to remove it? :icon_redf

I don't think you'll be able to. He will have swallowed it by now.

I think R Kelly will be our boss until the end of the season at least.

???

Why not?

Who says?

Please note that I am not suggesting that it should have been withdrawn - just surprised at this assertion.

I seem to remember something about PFA rules... which Derby broke with mawene, which is why he buggered off.

When a contract is offered there is a 21 or 28 day period where the club cannot withdraw or modify it without the co-operation of the player... But I haven't checked this.

What people have to realise is,this is, in the main, TD's job. After investing time, effort, and probably a little money, it makes absolute sense to extend Sheehan's contract. Forward thinking by the club, I say.:038:

i think its good news even if he doesnt turn in to the player we hoped, he wont be just taken away from us by another club for nothing at the end of his contract.
any money is better than none in our situation.:icon_roll

Didn't the same thing happen with Stearman after Adams left but before Levein came in? He's signed a longer contract now but under Bassett I'm sure he signed one until 2007.

At Sheehan's age we would still get a fee for him even if he left at the end of his contract.
