anyone done this or something similar?

I did, but it was quite a while ago, and it was on my workstation at work rather than my home PC. I think I just downloaded it from MS and just ran the install. I don't recall anything going hideously wrong.

i'm missing something obvious... how do i start it?

:102:

there's no desktop shortbut or exe in the directory or anything on my start menu?

If you've installed the server it will just run as a service, surely you need to install Enterprise Manager to connect to the DB? We use it at work all the time but I've never installed it, we just have it on the server and use EM to connect to it

Surely just ODBC will do the trick? :102: :icon_conf

i've set up a micky mouse database, an mdf, but can't seem to remote log into the thing using ODBC

oh i'm doing it on another PC, one that i can remote log into

i can use the remote one as a back end using \\theotherPC\\c$\test\database_be.mdb in Access btw

I installed it to use with Visual Web Developer Express which has a database manager as part of it. There is a SQL toolkit or somesuch on the MS website but all my dealings with it were via VWDE.
