please don't reply to this thread if you've not listened to the album and are just going to slag it off because you don't like the Red Hot Chili Peppers! my favourite song on Jupiter is probably Wet Sand and on Mars so far is Readymade-but i've just started my second listen through so might change my mind again!

Torn between two schools of thought:

1. It's a great mix between the more melodius BTW, the immense Californication, but has brought back more of the funk of the early albums. Mixing the styles has created a quality record, and it's one of their best.

But at the same time...

2. It sounds good, but doesn't quite have that soul/spirit/energy call it what you will. At the back of my mind I get the feeling they are trying to recreate the past rather than feeling it.

Bear in mind this is after listening to Jupiter twice and Mars once.

They're up there at the top of my list of all time favourite bands as well, doesn't mean I have to blindly like everything they do. BTW took me a long time to get into - this is much more immediate, and at times has the feel of Uplift Mofo, Mother's Milk & BSSM, but as I say, it dosn't yet seem to have 'it' 100% - possibly beacuse I don;t know the songs well enough.

Like I say - at the moment it could be one of the better CDs they have done, just a couple of nagging doubts yet.

RHCP have released enough that I like that I will likely buy every album they release - I won't decide whether I like every album or not until I've heard it though: being biased and loving something just beacuse it exists seems kinda dumb tbh :)

Although I did think last night that is exactly what we all do with LCFC - love it because it exists, with no rational logic ;)

So I'll rephrase: being biased and loving a CD just because it's by a certain band seems kinda dumb tbh :)

well im not that biased-the first album is pure shite to be honest and i only like a few tracks of by the way-blood sugar sex magik and californication are the best two-you interpreted what i said too literally, personally i reckon it could of been made into one really good album at the moment but this is alot better then btw thats for sure.

fair enough - I was in a bolshy mood yesterday ;)

I agree with most of this - add UMPP to the GOAT list, and actually I think you're being harsh on BTW  But yeah SA definitely has more to it than BTW.

goat :102: one hot minute is pretty bad also in order without sa (as i can't make my mind up fully yet)
1. Blood Sugar Sex Magik
2. Californication
3. By The Way
4. Mothers Milk
5. One Hot Minute
6. Uplift Mofo Party Plan
7. Freaky Styley
8. The Red Hot Chili Peppers

sa will defo be in my top 3 but im not sure as to where yet (notice how the top 4 are all john frusciante albums ;) )

GOAT - Greatest Of All Time - Jerry Rice for anyone who cares:

My version:

1. Californication
2. Blood Sugar Sex Magik
3. Uplift Mofo Party Plan
4. Mothers Milk
5. By The Way
6. One Hot Minute
7. Freaky Styley
8. The Red Hot Chili Peppers

I would at the moment have Stadium Arcadium somewhere 4-5, with time maybe rising to 3-5... Apologies again - re-reading I was very cantankerous yesterday!

I still love the song Dosed from the By The Way album.

Yeah I have mate not had a proper chance to listen the whole way through yet but I like the sound of what I have heard.

It's all a bit samey at the moment to me... a few stand out tracks but not as many as previous albums.
