When my computer is running though its boot process until it comes to a screen which asks me if I want to start in normal windows mode or safe mode and I get abotu 30 seconds to answer before it automatically starts in normal mode. This isnt a mjor problem but an annoying one, can I stop it from doing this, it has done it since new.:102:

It normally does this if it isn't shut down properly. Do you use the proper shutdown method? Or just hit the power button?

I was going to say try cleaning your keyboard in case one of your function keys was sticking, usually f8, but then I noticed it's been doing it from out of the box. It's possibly down to the BIOS that the PC manufacturer has used.

Hmmm, I've had a Packard Bell notebook in the past but it didn't behave like that.
It's possible that one of the boot files got corrupted when they were making the XP image, but I'm just guessing. If that was the case you would have to get your hands on a real copy of XP from somewhere & reformat the HD & reinstall with it.

After shutting down leave it for 5 mins or so before shutting the lid/screen. I used to get this problem but using this technique has solved it.
