“I am disappointed to be leaving Leicester City Football Club. It was always my aim to lead the club into the Barclays Premier League and I am very sorry that I won’t be able to do that.

“I have always thought, and still believe now, that the club will be promoted this season. The current squad is capable and ready to achieve promotion, but football is a results industry and unfortunately we couldn’t quite get things right enough of the time.

“Being the manager of Leicester City was an absolute pleasure and I wish everyone connected with the club the best of luck. Leicester City is a great club and I am certain that with the current owners in charge the club will go from strength to strength.

“To the players; old, new, everyone in the squad, I would like to say thank you. You are a talented group and I am hopeful that you will achieve success very soon.

“To the staff at the club; both at the stadium and the training ground – you treated me like a king and I shall miss working with you all.

“Last but not least, to the fans; I want to say a huge thank you for your support. You are fantastic people and I will never forget the way you welcomed me in to your club. I am just sorry that I won’t be on the bench the day you reach the Premier League.”

I still think it's a mistake for us to let Sven go, I feel sure he would have gotten us promoted this season - and I think we would've thrived under him had he got us there. What a class act as well, I bet a lot of the players and staff are sad to see him go.

Good luck Sven - almost brought a tear to my eye reading that!! :(

Professional, though somewhat uninspired.

A statement that others could learn from in the guise of ''how to be gracious, no matter the circumstances''.

P.S.: Thanks for the suitcase full of cash....

Seriously, what a gracious bloke

Well crafted statement from a very decent bloke.

As he says the results weren't good enough.

Where I would differ is that I don't think we would have got promotion under Sven this season or in the near future. He just wasn't able to get the required response from the players.

Top Bloke.

Should have been given until AT LEAST Christmas to help us climb up the table.
Still can't believe Leicester City have sacked Sven-Goran Eriksson! Never thought i'd hear that.

Good luck to him and i just hope we don't crumble under new management.

Bring on the West Ham.

Did anyone see what Danns said on Central News? I just saw a tweet that he would be on it...

Sad day for us and Sven. I admire his quality and gracious conduct. Such a shame that things didn't click into place and he wasn't given the time. We'll never know if he would have achieved promotion but i respect what he has tried to do. Lets hope that he has at least left a foundation or legacy that whoever comes in can build on, at least then his tenure and the money spent wont be completely in vain. Good Luck Sven.

Whoever is appointed will not have the excuse 'There are no decent players here'. Possibly apart from that mardy git Beckford. Could even MON get him playing with a bit of pashun?

A gracious and magnanimous statement. How inspired would you expect him be after getting the push? Lets hope who ever is chosen as his replacement has the 'the knowledge of football at this level' and the ability to keep us in the Prem.
