Is there any real point in CL bringing in any more players at this stage. There will probably be a wider choice in the summer and he will know for sure who's going/staying.
I say leave things alone until summer and concentrate on team pattern and player bonding

i think we have for now a team that is sufficient for this league

Walker (Hirs thingie bloke)
Maybury (Canero)
Heath Dabizas (Stearman Dublin)
Stewart (Makin  )
Gillespie
Williams Gudjonson (Hughes Nalis)
Tiatto (Morris if he is ever fit)
Connolly De Vries (Scowcroft Wright)

that is pretty much a player in every position covered for.

I think CL saw maybury and de vries as necessaries to ensure the threat of relegation never came into the eqn. As for hughes i think he was an opportunist signing that was too good to turn down, despite the exits of recent players i think all these are out of next seasons budget.

I can't see any problem bringing in new players right now, if suitable of course. The problem with summer signings is that they can use the excuse
of playing crap in the first 10 games on the fact that they are still trying to blend in. IMO pre season games are no indicater on how the team will perform when the season starts. They are fairly tame matches used to build up the players fitness.
Point being that it would be better to try out new players in proper competitive games, and even more so with our league position allowing us to experiment.

Part of his reason for signing players so soon must also be so that we don't have 12 new players coming in in the summer again... At least these three (and anyone else he might bring in) will have been here for a bit, settled in the area, gotten to know the staff/fans/other players etc.

The same transfer window rules that apply to the premiership, will (it looks like) apply to championship clubs next year...it is therefore vital that we get players in now, and get them gelled and ready for next season. I say this because if we are unhappy with what we have at the start of the season we will be stuck with them until December...

Its got to be worth getting people in and seeing if they are going to do the biz for us next year...this would allow us to better inform what players we will need in the summer and also make us a more stable unit before the start of next season.

Think about it...

Following the recent departures (& cost savings) + the Reading cup win prize money, we can confirm that all of the transfer deals to date have been funded within this seasons budget.

Given CL's desire to seize the moment with Hughes, if we hadn't won in the cup we may have dipped into next years budget, but we didn't need to.

Thats comforting to know, sounds like our finances are finally getting sorted

That is very Good news! :D

To many new playes in one go is bad and in summer there could be a lot of new players need. Gradual introduction of newbees is better

CL is not going to be buying stop gap players, so anybody he does sign is longer term. If somebody fits the bill and we can afford him sign him up, the longer they have to settle in before next season the better.

It's great to hear we're not spending next year's budget - more to come then.

But it really brings it home, doesn't it? I will be blasted by Webbo for inaccuracy  , but was it Exeter (or someone small that drew a big club in the last round of the cup) whose best moment in recent hostory was, in reality, the moment Tony Cascarino pulled them out of the hat along with Manure. It made them financially secure for years to come.

And now, to some degree, we're in the same boat. We win a cup game, we can buy a player. We go out early, we have to sell a set of goalposts and Kevin Pressman's oversized shorts (Ebay - someone will buy them, you know it!).

It begs the question, if we can win a fourth round game against Reading and score us a talented new player from Scotland with the proceeds, who will we sign when we win the final - Robben? :P

CL was quoted on R Leicester that any further buys this season will only be possible if we make further progress in the Cup
