Great quote from Rob Kelly in todays report on the Ipswich match. Can he really be trying to keep his job with comments like this:

"We've got great competition at centre-back and I'm seriously considering playing 11 defenders next week!"

Don't do it Rob! Coventry are shite!! :icon_lol:

I don't think it'd be an altogether crazy idea to have someone like McAuley upfront on occassion. :102: and we've done it before haven't we?..

Vs Derby, i thought he played well up there. Also against Fulham in the 1st leg when we were losing 2-1 again, thought he played well. Next Elliot or Walshy perhaps :102:

Playing up front in open play - holding the ball up, bringing other players into the game, flicking balls on, staying onside etc is very different to just coming forward for corners, so just because McAuley, Kisnorbo etc have good scoring records doesn't mean they can play up front. Steve Walsh took to it instantly and looked like a proper centre forward. It took Matt Elliott longer to get the hang of it eventually. I suspect of the current players McAuley would be better in that position because he's got better footballing skills, but I think I'd only use him there in an emergency.

I'm just saying it's an option, not that we should do it on a regular basis. We know hes a good header of the ball especially so if you have players that can put effective crosses in it makes sense to have some who is handy in the air in the box.

We laaarve it….

Against Luton when we had long freekicks playing them to macAulay who then headed it across goal worked quite well i thought and caused them a few probs. not sure i would let him actualy go up ang stay up at the front tho
