Blades cut to pieces

Monday, 28 November 2005.

Leicester’s impressive 4-2 victory over Sheffield United in the Championship won the Midlands side TheFA.com's Team of the Weekend.
Sheffield United have enjoyed an amazing start to the campaign and looked odds on to be challenging for promotion back into the top flight come the end of the season.

But they were brought crashing back down to earth at the Walkers Stadium as Craig Levein’s side produced their best performance of the season.

Iain Hume fired the home side in front, before Ryan Smith, on-loan from Arsenal doubled Leicester’s lead after just 15 minutes.

Although Danny Webber pulled United back into the game, any thoughts of a comeback were dashed when Elvis Hammond added a third and Hume notched a fourth.

Craig Short scored a consolation goal for United in injury time, but it was not enough to stop Leicester celebrating a memorable victory over Neil Warnock’s side which gives them fresh hope they can still challenge for a top six finish.

Other contenders for the team of the week came in League One where Colchester thrashed Gillingham 5-0.

And in League Two Rochdale came away with a thrilling 4-3 win over Shrewsbury which keeps them flying high at the top of the table.

But Leicester produced a five star display to help them move up the Championship and earn the team of the week award.
