Bare in mind that Kisnorbo, Weso and now Hughes are all out injured, and Tiatto is suspended.

I think it will be:

Connolly, De Vries

Subs: Henderson, Gerrbrand, Stearman, Dublin, O'Grady/Porter


A bit worrying that on the first day of the season, we have no first team midfielders left for the bench (unless I forgot someone). Bit of bad luck to have 4 midfielders out on the first day

Yep, I'd agree with that.

The only question marks are:

They went to a lot of trouble to get Gerrbrand in. Was he really bought to warm the bench?

There seems to be a question of whether Gilbert is "ready" (despite playing for Plymouth in this division last year).

Joey has missed much of the pre-season. Is he up to speed?

The midfield almost picks itself because of the injuries/Tiattions but playing two wingers in Sylla and Willcox doesn't fit CL's plan of playing one side narrow. But I'm sure they'll both start this game.

Playing both Gilbert and Sheehan in the LB and LM positions would enable CL to play narrow it would also provide a little more defensive cover and energy in what is going to be a very tough away match, if we need to open up and chase the game then Wilcox can then be bought on. Also I think Hammond will start, I would prefer Connolly to but I think CL may be loathe to risk a player who is going to be key to our hopes this season and is definately not 100% fit. I dont think Hughes or Connolly will be available until Ipswich next week. With such a small squad CL can ill afford to risk players in case they aggravate the injury and lengthen the time out.

They've been saying all along Connolly will be ready for this match, and we're obviouslt going to be desperate for a win in our first game. Can't see Connolly not playing.


If we play Sheehan and Gilbert, then we lack any experience down the left side, can't see it happening. I was actually just thinking that I wouldn't be suprised to see Nissa at LB today with Gerrbrand in the centre, and Gilbert hasn't had long to settle and isn't as experienced.
