Apparently the friendly against Boston that we cancelled in the summer was finally played yesterday - but at the Walkers, not at Boston.

Was it behind closed doors? Did anybody know about it in advance? Did anybody go? Why is there nothing on the official site about it?

Story is that we won 4-3 and Lawrie Dudfield got two of their goals.

like to know whose idea it was to play at walkers cant imagine boston being too happy about it after all they were guaranteed some dough with the original fixture :102:

It was supposed to be played behind closed doors if it was at Boston last night anyway.

I've now heard elsewhere that the game took place before the Watford game - IOW during the fortnight lay-off for the internationals. It was definitely at the Walkers, so Boston can't have got anything out of it financially.

Nothing on the Boston official site about it either, but Boston Fever (their Rivals site) put a short report up yesterday:

http://bostonunited.rivals.net/default.asp?sid=1581&p=2&stid=8394520

United lost their rearranged friendly with Leicester City 4-3 with Lawrie Dudfield grabbing a brace.

Uniteds players were given the chance to sample the atmosphere of the Walkers Stadium for the game that was due to take place in July.

Both managers field strong sides with the game played in a friendly style.

Chris Holland, Ashley Edkins and Chris Wright were the star picks for United with Dudfield gaining the plaudits for his brace.

The other United goal via a stunning Jason Lee volley.

What do you mean? Why was it supposed to be behind closed doors?

It was written a few weeks ago that the game would take place around now but that the game would be behind closed doors at Boston - no explanation.

Cheers. I missed that.

Bad form to follow-up one's own post, I know. But I just couldn't resist commenting on this bit of the Boston Fever report:

Yup!! And with the game being played behind closed doors, the atmosphere was *exactly* the same as when there are 20,000+ there for league games!

The behind closed doors match are for training reasons, they are there for the managers to try out different players etc

The match was a weeknight a couple of weeks ago. I rode home from work and always ride by the Walkers, at the time I thought that there
was maybe a reserves match as there were 2 coaches outside. :icon_conf

Feck me! We won a game!!:icon_lol:

Good call. Play all our games behind closed doors from now on. We'll all be richer, drink less and in a couple of years we'd be winning the champions league...:038:
