Re: That Damned United

:icon_roll dont start.

It ends a little premature but it definately shows the old era football. If im honest nothing past the 90's has ever interested me but after seeing this i had a little surge through the history books.

Little things that i needed to find out, like how well Dave Mackay did after he took over Derby from Clough. The film changes a few things though.

I'm not starting anything. It was meant to be a serious question and I am disappointed that you haven't replied.

Re: That Damned United

It isn't a bad film but it's not brilliant either. Clough's supposed obsession with Revie didn't ring true to me.
The 70s detailing was good though and the players did look abit like who they were supposed to look like.

Re: That Damned United

Ah, in that case. No its not the best thing iv ever seen. Maybe the book will be the best thing iv ever read ?

I wonder.

For me the book is a truly great read. Try it you won't be disappointed.

I would rate it as the best sports/football book I've ever read.

A caustic, turbulent and brilliantly crafted novel.

A personal perspective.I'm no literary expert!

Kingy85 - If you are interested on reading books about football history/development, I'd recommend reading stuff by Jonathan Wilson and David Goldblatt. Both are excellent.

Also, if you're interested in watching some of the old matches, I know several links of football DVD collectors and such like where you can get some games from.

TB goon alert!

The Damned United.

Re: That Damned United

Certainly the author was (is) more personable than the bloke who collaborated on Starting a Wave :icon_wink

A bit pushy though, wouldn't you say?
