I very much doubt If this had been a permanent deal that it would have been a straight swap, so perhaps it's been done as an initial loan swap for FFP reasons until the summer when the deal can be concluded long term. Or both clubs have taken the opportunity to offload two unwanted players, put them in the shop window for the summer window. Silva could return in the summer with 5 months football under his belt and ready to stake a claim for a first team place under our new manager, there are all many of scenarios that could be at play on this one.
