Is it that he’s at the wrong club? Chilwell, Justin and Maguire all got in.

Is it more to do with Southgate being more of a figurehead than a coach and he can’t have a big personality like Maddison involved, rabble rousing with his nice boys from the big academies?

I can’t say I’ve given it much though because given the choice of watching an England game and a livestream of a coffin I’d probably go for the stiff in the box….

This is the real issue - if the best league teams don't play in a way that would suit Maddison, why would it make sense for England to start playing that way? People seem intent on saying it's personal between Southgate and him, but he got multiple call ups (despite the casino affair) and game time, maybe he just doesn't suit the system that's been successful and can't adapt
