Sven Goran Eriksson is trying to entice Thierry Henry back into English football at Leicester City. The Swede has asked whether the Arsenal legend would be interested in a temporary move to the Walkers Stadium.
Henry, who is training at London Colney with his old club, is contracted to MLS side New York Red Bulls, but wants to maintain his fitness ahead of the new season.
Foxes boss Eriksson is desperate for a marquee signing and has been seeking a star name that will be recognised in Thailand, where Leicester's owners are based.
He has twice had enquiries for David Beckham knocked back and tentative moves for Manchester City's Roque Santa Cruz and Robbie Keane have also failed.
But the Swede has managed to prise Yakubu from Everton after agreeing to pay his £45,000-a-week wage. It was thought the former Nigeria striker was that big name everyone was talking about - but Eriksson has now been given the go-ahead to pursue Henry.
The 33-year-old was playing for Barcelona only last season but decided to see out his career in the American league.
But he would earn a hefty bonus for just six weeks' work if he can secure a short-term release, and cash is not an issue for the Thai owners, who have major energy interests in the Far East.
The New York Red Bulls' season does not kick off until March 19 against Seattle Sounders and, if a deal is agreed quickly, Henry could be a big help to Leicester as they push for the play-off spots.
The striker could be available for up to 10 matches, with the Championship side only six points behind the play-off positions - a huge improvement from when Eriksson took over and they were in the bottom three.
