The summer transfer window closes 4 weeks from now, on Thurs 9th August.

Before the window closes, what business do you think we need to do?

I'm convinced we will/should go to 3 at the back, so I think we need a new centre back still for sure.

On top of that, I'd like to see a new left back - again, especially if we go to that system.

I think another creative player to replace some of what Mahrez brought to the team - whether that's a winger or an attacking mid will depend on the system we want to go for.

I'm also wondering if we need another striker? Assuming Slimani, Musa and Ulloa all won't be here, that leaves us with Vardy, Nacho and Shinji. I hadn't thought about us needing a new striker until I realised Vardy will probably be out for the first weeks to recover from World Cup duty, which leaves us very light up front. And isn't this an AFCON season too?

So for me:
CB
LB
CAM/Winger
ST

AFCON is in June next year

We need two wibbles, a pickled onion monster munch and a bag of marbles

Completely forgot about Diabate

If we do go 352 then Gray and Diabate would be strikers in that system.

True I suspect Gray and Diabate could be used in the support striker role in a 3-5-2

Personally I'd quite like to see Musa get another go in that role in that system too.

So Gray, Diabate, Musa, Okazaki, Maddison all fighting for the support striker role?

I think Maddison will play in the 3 in midfield, with Nacho and Vardy upfront.
Possibly, but I think he has been brought in with the intention of playing behind Vardy in the number 10 role, as a more creative replacement to Okazaki, to try to make up for the loss of Mahrez.

But who knows what Claude the Fraud has in mind.

I think we’re going to need another defender as there’ll be a stupid bid for Maguire on deadline day.

And striker wise it is a worryingly weak picture potentially particularly if there’s a late move for Vardy. Getting him secured is pretty crucial for us (waits for Lako to disagree....)

Watching Maguire for England I think shows even more why we should be going to a back 3. He's been excellent in that position for England and can bring the ball forwards well. Being in a back 3 he can do that, whereas when we have 2 centre backs and he wants to come forward it leaves too big a hole.

So a new centre back needs to be a priority even if he stays (which I think/hope he will), because we don't have enough cover there to play 3 at the back atm.

Why would I disagree?

I agree. Whilst Morgan still has excellent positional skills and last defence body blocking skills, even his most ardent supporters recognise that he is slower now than two years ago, and he was slow back then. That would mean we could not play a high defence line if we want to emulate Liverpool with a fast, high pressing game, not just a counter-attacking game. We also need fast backs in case another team tries to out-Vardy us!

Will we be playing an entirely different sport next season? ;)
