Why has the "News of those we once loved (and Melton hated)" thread been closed?

It was discussed amongst the mods and it was decided to follow the Webbie route. :icon_wink

The rest of us plebs don't care what you get up to at your little soirées but perhaps a note at the end of the thread in question explaining why it had suddenly closed might have been the best course of action.

You know, communication and all that :icon_wink

You clearly do not read Webbie's posts as he has in the past expressed the opinion that overly long threads sometimes exceed there useful lifespan. Pay attention, the clues are all out there. :icon_wink

We have been over this subject many times in the past.

Most people don't spend hours a day on this site. They don't read every thread. They choose what to read based on the thread title.

That's why thread titles should describe what's in the thread, and why we shouldn't have never ending threads to post news/rumours etc in, because most people won't notice, and they might post a new thread to say the same thing.
A couple of times this week that has happened, someone has posted a new thread which has duplicated what's been in the 'News of those...' thread, and it regularly happens with the ridiculously long rumours threads too.

I can get an add-on for the forum which will automatically close a thread if no one has posted to it for a couple of days, maybe I should install it.

No argument there Jeff - I'm with you all the way on that. If you'll excuse the religious overtones, we're singing from the same hymn sheet!

All I would suggest is that if a thread is closed then the final post should be a message from the mod who closed it explaining why.

Even the match threads are usually ended courteously by a link to the post-match thread.

When I close threads like this it's often because I want them to disappear and for people to forget about them. Adding a new post will have the opposite effect, by bringing it to the top of the threads list.

I don't think that would be a good idea.

and threads like the joke thread would need to be started regularly (and maybe the tits thread!!!)
