Leicester City Football Club have today released their ticket pricing structure for the 2009/10 Coca-Cola Championship season.
The pricing plan is focused around a commitment to the future generations of Leicester City supporters, benefits for members and season ticket holders as well as innovative schemes that will appeal to all Leicester City supporters.
The club has increased adult ticket prices by £2 per match for ‘gold’ fixtures and by £4 per match for six ‘platinum’ games against local rivals Derby County and Nottingham Forest, the recently relegated trio of Newcastle United, Middlesbrough and West Bromwich Albion and the Boxing Day clash against Sheffield United.
This represents only the second price increase in the past seven seasons and the club has pledged to continue the existing policy of reinvesting additional funds in to the current playing squad and the academy, thus developing the future of Leicester City Football Club.
Leicester City Football Club Chairman, Milan Mandaric, said: “The loyalty of our supporters throughout our season in Coca-Cola League One was fantastic. Thousands of those supporters have now purchased season tickets, which has enabled the club to secure the signings of Jack Hobbs, Wayne Brown, Robbie Neilson and Chris Weale.”
He added: “The momentum that Nigel and his team have built over the past twelve months will be invaluable for what promises to be another exciting season at the Walkers Stadium.”
Leicester City Football Club Chief Executive, Lee Hoos, said: “We have endeavoured to ensure that watching football at the Walkers Stadium is affordable for all of our supporters. The increase in pricing is not a decision that we have taken lightly. We are certain that our pricing structure offers value for money for everyone.”
He added: “We have stuck to our principles of being a family focused club and as such all under 8’s can attend matches for free in the Marks Electrical Family Stand, under 12’s are just £5 across the stadium and this year under 18’s can pay just £10 to watch a ‘gold’ fixture.”
The club has also announced that for the first time all home league fixtures for the coming season will be on sale from Saturday July 4th and that adult memberships have been discounted by a further £1 to £2 per match ticket.
This decision means that an adult seat for a member in the ‘Kop’ priced at £23 per match last season in Coca-Cola League One, will be the same price this season for all ‘gold’ fixtures in the Championship. Adults will still receive 5% off all merchandise in the City Megastore as well as priority on all away league and cup fixtures as part of their membership.
Leicester City Supporters’ Club Chairman, Cliff Ginetta, said: “The increase will be difficult for some people given the current economic climate. Having said that there are some great deals there for supporters.”
He added: “I actually believe that the increase may encourage more supporters to become season ticket holders which can only be a good thing for us all. The fact that the club have pledged to put the funds towards the playing squad and the academy is positive as well.”
The family packages and the option of purchasing all home match tickets throughout the season for the first time have also been championed by Ginetta.
“I have always pushed for offers for families as we are a family club so I’m particularly pleased with that package. As for all match tickets being available from July 4th, that is a great move by the club which I have been hoping would be implemented for a long time. If you want to go to a rock concert you can plan ahead and now City fans will be able to do the same and pick out their games.”
This season will also see a selected amount of £20 ‘Just the Ticket’ adult seats available in the Upton Steel West Stand for each home league match, which represents a £5 discount on the lowest adult ticket price available, beating many of City’s rivals in the Coca-Cola Championship. Restrictions will apply on this offer, to ensure that the tickets reach as many supporters as possible. Parent and child packages will begin at just £21 per match and an innovative student supporters scheme will enable supporters aged 12 and over within education at school, college or university, discount to fixtures once their institution has signed up to the scheme.
South Leicestershire College Deputy Principle, Matt Pinches, said: “The partnership we have established with the club is mutually beneficial and offers great value for our students. It is refreshing to see a football club willing to invest in their current and future supporter bases and we are delighted to be able to offer our students a £2 discount off ticket prices for this coming season.”
He added: “We are looking forward to the season with optimism and I am sure that our students will get behind Nigel and his team and give them their support.”
The success of recent initiatives such as the grassroots fixtures will also continue through the 2009/10 season, alongside a programme of themed fixtures to help celebrate the club’s 125 year anniversary. In addition, disabled supporters will be able to claim a free ticket for their carers for all home matches.
The new pricing structure also offers greater value for adult Leicester City season-ticket holders, who can watch matches at the Walkers Stadium from less than £17. This would represent a saving of over £10 per match, based on ‘platinum’ match ticket prices and a saving of over £8 per match, based on ‘gold’ ticket prices.
