Message From Tim Davies

The Leicester City Chief Executive speaks to fans ahead of the club's crucial Championship clash against Cardiff at the Walkers Stadium.....

Welcome to our first home Championship game of 2006 and I'd personally like to thank you for all your support now and throughout 2005. You make our club.

Many of us will want to put last year behind us from a league result point of view.

The results have been poor and have to improve. Curiously our results in cup games have been significantly better as reflected against Spurs earlier this month.

The need to repeat these cup successes in our remaining league matches this season is imperative.

As a board and the Chief Executive, I have received much and varied correspondence over the past month with regards to our current league position.

Thank you for this correspondence. It is always useful and thought provoking. Our results are unacceptable and it is clear on what we need to deliver.

We are all fully aware that this club has never been relegated to League One.

Indeed many of us were there at the infamous Oxford match and the Tony James goal. I can personally remember it like it was yesterday.

When Craig (Levein) came here we set out on a strategy to build the foundations for permanent long term success i.e.

- Players on longer term contracts, living locally who want to do well for the club
- Development of younger players through the Academy system
- Reduction of the average age of playing squad
- Sustainable off-field business development to support the club
- Financial prudence - living within our means

We have made considerable progress against this strategy. However none of us envisaged the current position we find ourselves in.

The priority and duty now is staying up whilst ensuring the club is not put in financial jeopardy. This is not an easy nor comfortable balancing act.

Whilst I agree results are everything and in talking to many contacts in football, the general consensus is that our main issue is scoring goals.

This is supported by the Football League statistics. We are half way up the goals conceded league status table (whilst not what is required, it is not disastrous).

We are top of the shots on target and hit the woodwork tables but bottom of the chances converted table (around 15%) whilst Reading and Sheffield are above 30%. Most clubs are above 20%.

I know that stats are not everything and that many have concerns over motivation, strength and the team etc.

However whilst not ignoring theses issues we have initially gone down the route of buying Matty Fryatt to help improve our goal ratio and to provide further competition for players to score goals.

Matty will hopefully be making his first full start this afternoon (Welcome to Matty - no pressure!).

I can assure you that the players and management team are also fully aware of their responsibilities to all of us.

I ask you please, at least for the matches themselves, to get behind the team.

Including today, we have nine more home league games this season.

We all, despite different and passionate views, have one common goal, to get our football club winning and winning now.

There has never been a more crucial time to support your Leicester City.

Tim seems to have said what the non 'knee-jerkers' amongst us have been saying for some time:

He stops short of saying we must stay up no matter what the cost, which would appear to rule out sacking/compensation for the manager and selling/dumping half the squad at a loss and buying in a new squad.

If we ignore the failings of the manager, our squad is young, talented?, but 'lightweight'. We are easily pushed off the ball. I think that is why people like Dublin at the back and de Vries up front give the team some strength, even if they are not the 'future' team. If they help keep us up they should play.

We've been there before for almost 3 summers in the row, so whilst I don't think CL is the man to do it I'd want to seen whoever is in charge use the foundations of the current squad rather than bring in 10 new men.

I thought Tim's message was pretty fair and honest. Yes he didn't tell us how long it will be before they decide to sack CL (if at all), but then I wouldn't expect him to either.

I think Tim's right.

Disregarding for the moment who's fault this imbroglio is, we are in such a mess, there is not much alternative now but for everyone who really cares to provide as much support as possible for the team during the game. And time for the recriminations (if any!)afterwards.

And Mike True Blue Tinter in B3:- We are in S 226-228 and so I'll say hello to you this afternoon.

Doug

I think the strategy is fine.

I also think that there is sufficient playing strength to achieve safety.

So, the problem must be elsewhere and that means that we don't have the right people off the pitch to deliver the strategy. I doubt if there is sufficiently strong messages coming fron the board room...and as for Craig Levein - a lost soul.

Here's a message for you, Tim - and the rest of the Board

"Stop sitting in your cushy offices masturbating over the Opta stats about how many shots we have, and how many times we hit the bleedin' post.

Stop wittering on about the crowd. We pay our cash and have every right to say what we like. The crowd were superb today, and we still lost

Stop harping on about the long term plan blah blah fukkin' blah, and try looking at this season.

And, for crying out loud, stop being so mealy mouthed, useless and, above all, impotent and do your fukkin' job.

The ONLY stat of any consequence is the fact that we have taken two points out of a possible 27 (and they were against the might of crewe and Millwall)

You stand on the brink of being the first CEO, and Board, to take this club to the lowest level in its history.

I accuse you all of doing precisely fukk all

Get this man out, and get him out now. Don't fanny about wittering on about not knowing who to bring in. Frankly, right now, it is of little consequence. Just get this fukker on the next train back to Scotland and SAVE OUR FUKKIN' CLUB YOU USELESS PATRONISING WASTE-OF-SPACE BASTARD(S)"

De Vries is a pansy, for such a tall guy he gets muscled off the ball way to easy for my liking. And if by some miracle he manages to get his head onto one of our gigantic humps forward, it just bounces off in a random direction!
