Hi.

I'd like to go to scunthorpe from narborough on the train tommorow, and have checked nationalrail.co.uk. I have a couple of questions though as i'm not used to travelling on the train.

Its too late for me to buy the tickets in advance, and the changeover times are a bit tight.

Does it cost more to buy on the day?

Can i get the ticket for the whole return journey from the conductor on the train at narborough, despite 2 changes?

Any help much appreciated.

What time do you need to go and when are you returning?

Advance tickets are available up to 6 p.m. on the day before travel. I'm not sure whether you will be able to collect them from Narborough.

It may be cheaper to buy Advance tickets but the amount saved may be little compared to the convenience of being able to travel on any train.

The conductor on the train will be able to sell you any ticket or combination of tickets to complete your journey.

Just checked and you can collect tickets from the machine at Narborough so you could, if you choose, buy them online and collect them from the station before you travel. Having checked through the fares, I think it's very unlikely that you will be able to beat the £29.30 off-peak return fare for your through journey.

Thank you Boc.

According to national rail website, there is no machine at narborough, only over the counter and it would be closed.

I decided not to risk it and went to Leicester station and bought the tickets ready.

Do you have any idea of the difference in price on the day? for future reference

I presume that you bought an off-peak return ticket at £29.30. If so, it would have cost you the same whenever you bought it. It is only Advance tickets which may be cheaper if bought in eeerrr... advance.

Yeah got the ticket you mentioned.

Thanks for your help, i'm sure i seem stupid but couldn't find clarification on the website.
