Ipswich didn't have any problems last night

Ipswich Town 3-1 Real Valladolid

By Bluesweb.co.uk
Friday, 31st July 2009
Goals from Dutch defender Pim Balkestein, striker Connor Wickham and an own-goal gave Town a 3-1 win in their final pre-season friendly.
A minutes silence in memory of Town legend Sir Bobby Robson who died at the age of 76 this morning was observed before a kick-off, in a game which Town players wore black armbands in Memory of the great man.

A crowd of 5.873 attended the clash at Portman Road, with all proceeds from the game going to The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation charity which specialises in funding the treatment and treatment of cancer.

I wonder if it will come out this afternoon that a new signing will be unveiled tomorrow. This will boost the crowd by quite a bit. In turn imagine everyone's dissapointment when Carl Cort is unveiled for his second stint at the club!! :icon_bigg

my starting 11

berner hobbs tunchev brown
dyer wellens oakley n'guessan
fryatt howard

Under 6000 at Ipswich I see....

Why anyone watches friendlies I do not know but home ones are especially tedious in the extreme as you are not even visiting a town or ground you would not usually go to. I know players need them for fitness, team gelling etc but as a rule they bore the pants off everyone and would be better observed by one man and his dog.

As for the 56,000 at the Emirates today well they should be ashamed of themselves,. Anyone who spent the afternoon watching it on Sky that goes double!!!!!

Weale

Nielson Hobbs Tunchev Berner

Adams Wellens Oakley Dyer

N'Guessan Howard

Subs: Everyone else

I understand King has an ankle knock and I wouldn't start Fryatt as he hasn't played in any of the other friendlies. Maybe Brown instead of Tunchev if Tinchev isn't fully fit.

I know people like you say things like this to wind people like me up, but still - what a monumentally stupid post. That post should serve as the measuring stick by which all other stupid things are measured.

Why watch any game? Home games are obviously not worth going to because you don't get to observe the culture and architecture and Greggs and Starbucks of another town. Away games are worthless because even though there is the attraction of another town to look at, you still have to bore yourself with 90 minutes of football. And what football fan wants that?

Really, what an utterly cretinous thing to post.

Which bit?

All of it!

Fryatt has had a leg infection which is the reason he hasnt played as yet.

Tunchev is coming back from a long term injury and has been playing.

I reckon both will be in the starting line up

You watch a game to see who gets the points or progresses to the next round.

Not to see most players not trying and more worried about picking up injuries that will rule them out of "real" games than the one they are playing in at the time , loads of substitutions and paying over the odds to watch what really is a training session.

I was saying away friendlies would hold slightly more attraction than a home one but in truth neither hold any attraction for me and the season does not start till next Saturday.

I'm sure thousands will go tomorrow and love every second, others will go be bored stiff and wish they had not bothered.

I go to watch my team try to beat a team and hopefully be entertained. If I just wanted to see who gets the points rather than watch the match, I could save my money, stay at home and put on teletext.

Most players will be trying. They all want to be in the first team, if for no other reason than they get paid more! Anyone who gets a chance on the pitch because of an injury or substitution will want to stake their claim to that position for the next game.

Or to see what shape the team is taking for the new season, what ideas the manager has, and what the new signings look like on the pitch in a shiny blue shirt.

Then don't go to friendlies. (Non-existent) problem solved.

I've seen some piss-awful games but I've sure as hell never wished I hadn't bothered.

Except when we played Burnley.
