Never been so glad to be back to a place than before. Been home for the weekend and we have always had NTL Digital, now Virgin Media, and it was so hard to get through the 5 days with no Sky Sports News it was like I was suffocating without it!! Can't believe that they have lost the Sky channels, I was trying to convince the parents to switch to Sky after a few days without and I'm sure 100s will be the same!!

Does anyone know if this situation is likely to be resolved or if the government may/can get involved as it may have violate legislations in the Competition Act or the Act about Monopolies?

Also has anyone noticed the 'childish' marketing from both companies. Personally I first saw it coming from Virgin Media as when they were launching their service all their promotions stated 'We are better than Sky at this' 'Sky can't do this' and so on, but failed to mention the fact that they would be losing some of the most popular channels!!

But its not as simple as just switching the TV. To get Sky, we would need to reconnect to BT phone and then sort out the internet as well. I could just get rid of the TV and get Sky instead but it would no be a very cost effective method at all of having NTL internet and phone with Sky TV, as there are amazing deals with both.

Would want to keep NTL internet as well because of the network they use. Better technology and it doesn't matter how far away from the exchange you are as it uses fibre optic cables.

Freeview are set to lose the Sky channels aswell.

Virgin lose them now because they were being vocal about it.

Sky are set to offer a deal on Freeview or Freesat (their new thing which means anyone with a shite signal gets Freeview), when you get Sky One and about 4 other top channels for a fee of around £15. (No Movie or Sports however)

Why :102:

OK, or pay an extra £25 then. Either way requires more capital. ;)

EDIT : Just checked BT and it is actually free to reconnect so it would be cheaper to do that than to pay the £25 for not having it connected to a phone line.

I don’t have a bt landline and I have sky and I have never paid 25 quid.

Well we had to in my uni house. I'm sure theres something in the small print saying it has to be connected to a BT line. I thought that was so you could buy PPV through your TV as we have to ring up.

Anyone shed any futher light on this? :102:

I have NTL phone and Sky TV. I can order PPV games through my TV control no problem.

My NTL phone is £25 a month (Unlimited calls - except mobiles and 0845 type numbers)

Sky is £37 a month, but I dont have the movies cos they're shite.

But as Duzza said there is loads of deal around for NEW sky customers.

If I don’t have sky movies can I still order sky box office movies?

im also dissapointed with not having sky news anymore, but sky are a bunch of greedy sods. they have overpriced their channels so virgin have told them to stuff it. ive started watching bbc 24, cnn and euro news instead and to be honest its a refreshing change. i will be staying with virgin and as soon as you change to sky, virgin will get those channels back and you will have wished you never bothered changing :102:

I MISS SKY SPORTS NEWS!!!

apparently Virgin Media are now suing Sky for a fair price for the Sky channels so they will get them back.

Do Sky have a download limit for broadband? if they do its something that Virgin Media will have over them as its unlimited downloads. the only downside to Virgin Media is that the more people in your area connected to it, the slower the service.

i thought it was funny when they put 'old Sky snooze' and 'old Sky Sports snooze'. childish, but amusing.

Hence my reason for including it. Though I have never broken my fair usage policy.

I get 19mb so could theoretically use alot.
