From The Times saturday:

IT WAS a case of seventh time lucky for Benni McCarthy when he secured a move to the Barclays Premiership in the summer. “For seven years in a row I wanted to come to England,” the South Africa forward said yesterday. “Every year I got one foot through the door, only to have it slammed in my face.

It got to the stage where I thought I’d go anywhere in England, even to a team like Leicester City.”
McCarthy meant no disrespect to Leicester — his remarks were intended only to emphasise his desperation to play in the Premiership — and that is why the striker feels that he owes a debt to Blackburn Rovers, after the Lancashire club ended his agonising wait by paying FC Porto £2.5 million for his services in July.

I don't think he's gonna be too popular if we play him in the near future

.......... and he ends up at a team like Blackburn Rovers, thats even worse.

As far as I am concerned he can feck off back to South Africa before he starts shipping his relatives over here, maybe thats why he was desperate to play in England and mop up all our benefits

cheeky b@st@rd! we wouldn't want the tosser anyway! he'd never get in our side! he's not even fit to lick Elvis's arse!

luckily for him he ended up at a massive club like blackburn eh! not intending to be offensive to him but i'd rather see ade come back than that worthless feck.......i believe he was good on championship manager at some stage, and still lives off that reputation

Anyone ever read a book about a club called Castel Di Sangro and their season in Serie B?

Either way according to their chairman we had a Nigerian striker and it was not Akinbiyi.

Castel Di Sangro - that was the team Chelsea found Carlo Cudicini. Apart from that, I know feck all about them.

Gravina announced the team was to sign a Nigerian player from Leicester City F.C. of the FA Premier League named Robert Ponnick. Being the first Premiership player to play in Serie B, the press crowded his debut in an exhibition match. The match was a disaster, with Ponnick showing almost no sense of understanding football and getting into a fight with one of his team-mates. At the end, it was revealed that the opposing team was an acting troupe and he was one of its members. The whole charade had been cooked up by Gravina in order to generate publicity. As might be expected, it worked, but all of the press was sharply negative.
