Does anybody know of a browser based messenging service?

It needs to do the following

- Highlight when the other users are online
- Let you know if sent messages have been read
- Sit in your current browser like a web page
- Smilies (preferable but not essential)
- Easy ability to quote messages (like on here, again preferable not essential)
- No pop ups when messages arrive (although I'm sure there would be an option to turn that off)
- Not a part of any shite social networking group

Thanks

I use Microsoft web messenger when Im using a PC that doesnt have it installed. Not as good as the program itself but quite adequate.

Yep, but can you use that in the browser or are you dependant on the pop up.

It opens up in a new window. No real pop up
But the new window is a pop up, it isn't a new browser, I want it part of a multi tab in IE7, not a seperate one that isn't part of a browser.

Ah OK, have you tried right clicking the link to the new window and 'open in new tab'??

No can do, the new tab just goes straight to the passport login page. When clicking on "Sign in" on that page it doesn't give you the option to open in a new tab

Have you tried Gooogle talk?

A lot of my mates used this when in Uni as there was no MSN on the uni computers and you weren't permitted to install applications.

Seeing as I was hardly ever in Uni I haven't used it but it may be what your looking for.

EDIT - just gave it a whirl and it opens up in as a pop up. No go.
