Is he really as good as people suggest him to be? He has only made one first team appearance, which was a friendly against a team who have recently been reduced to shambols by the mighty and indomitable Clyde F.C.

i'm non the wiser, as i'm yet to see him him play. but it seems that i'm hearing the same kind of hype that heralded the false dawns of recent youth academy products such as; tommy wright, tomi petrescu...

not wanting to sound negative about this, but with recent speculation of the possible departures of a number of our midfielders, should people really be so optimistic of his future with the club?

as usual, time will tell.

He looked good for 45 minutes in a friendly. So no, he hasn't proven anything although he has great potential.

Whether his injury has knocked his confidence remains to be seen.

I for one share your views Muzzy. Im a little reluctant to say hes a first team player as hes not made the grade yet! Anybody remember Sammy McMahon?

Weslowski has had rave reviews by the socceroo youth coaches, I remember reading that they had said he looked a good a player as Kewell did at his age if not better. CL himself stated at the time of his injury he would have played some part with the first team, but not a regular. He looked good against Celtic and good reports have been coming out of the club regarding youth and ressy performances, much the same way as Stearman was and he aint done bad. He is a good prospect, lets leave it at that.

Was highly rated by the Socceroos and by the City coaching staff close season. He obviously can't be treated as a good player as he has had no opportunity to prove himself. However, in all of his pre-season appearances, including the one against Celtic he looked like a great prospect. The most impressive factor was his attitude - not scared to put a foot in, drive forward with purpose and gave a bollocking to a couple of the senior pros. He can't be treated as anything more than having fantastic potential, but he should be treated as having that.

He played at Kettering as well and totally bossed the game. He is deffo one for the future.

Watched him a couple of summers ago in a pre-season friendly at shepshed. Didnt know who he was until somebody on here told me after the game but first impressions were skillful, confident and enthusiastic. He also got a lot of respect from the seniors when he went round every player giving a high 5.
He played in centre mid alongside Dawson (i think that was his name) who i think has left the club has he not?............Anyway they linked up really well together and if he gets a run in the side i reckon there is a possibility we may have another Muzzy on our hands.

He looked very impressive against Celtic, and bear in mind the quality of opposition and IMO he was the best performer, decent on the ball and has a great engine, but what stands him out above some of the "prospects" of yesteryear is his character, he is like Stearman, he fears nobody and isnt fazed by reputations, in fact he is a typical Aussie. If we can get him into the squad for the last 3 months or so he will certainly make a contribution.

Massive prospect IMO.

Agree with all of that, as long as his injury hasn't ruined his confidence.

Good point that, Luke, your comment sums footballers up TBH, talent is important but 99% is what is going on in the players head, for example look at Williams and Sylla, both very talented but because of their attitude and mentality havent really made too much in the way of positive contribution to our season, yet Joey who is more of a wholehearted player, because of renewed confidence and a desire to make a contribution he has been far and away the player who has delivered the goods as opposed to his more talented team mates.

Lets hope Weso can maintain that confidence, hunger and desire that made him such an effective player prior to his injury.

I think it's the nature of the injury and at such a young age that could be an issue. If he did his cruciates then fine, it happens and its easier to do the rehab and get back on the pitch. Having your leg broken by some clot is different especially with a young boy. We will see in time if he still goes in to challenges with the same 'enthusiasm'.

Here I go with my sports science hat on.

Bones actually heal stronger after a break than they were before so in physical terms he shouldn't have any problems assuming that the bone was set correctly which I'm sure it will have.

Mentally, Aside from using sports psychologists its a case of getting back playing and building confidence in the leg game by game. He should be fine IMO.

Kiss of death no doubt.

Good work Dunc. My point though was more on the psychological side. Getting someone to help him there is great but if it has affected him I doubt there is anything anyone can do. Lets hope he is fine anyway :098:

I spoke to Weso and his father about three months ago. He was already saying that he would be back much quicker than anybody expected and was clearly seeing the injury as a very minor set-back. He seemed to me to have the kind of attitude that will allow him to get straight back into his game.
