Of CL's signings now then?

OK, let's look... (and I know this has been done before) but as the season unfolds and a new look side emerges, I wanted to know thoughts on the following, of you Talking Ballsers in the style of team ratings.

I will correlate results and provide stats ala Sheffield after a certain amount of time. I am only including current signings, therefore have omitted Taylor. I have also omitted Hirschfield and Moore as I cannot see how we could possibly judge these two yet, they both look ok to me?

If I have missed anyone, I know you'll let me know damn quickly!

Maybury 8 - Excellent signing, has had a few moments, but in general has everything, speed, skill and two great feet! Makin anyone?
De Vries 6 - I think a good signing and i hope now he's off the mark more will follow. Excellent at Charlton, better than Benjamin at holding up play and bringing in team-mates, give him time Homer.
Hughes 9 - A coup if you ask me, young, good engine, great vision, a true sign of things to come? I sincerely hope so.
McCarthy 8 - Why on earth did man City sell him? A mate I know in Manchester said Pearce was seething when he found out 'King Kev' had let him go. Much better than Heath so far, so good.
Kenton 7 - Good signing, we needed cover and he looks a good player in this league, although went missing at Blackburn.

i agree. I think Hughes is going to be class, he was a steal. Him, McCarthy, and Maybury will be first names on the team sheet next season.

I'm still unconveived about De Vries, but think he can do a job for us at this level.
I'm unsure whether we really need to sign Kenton in the summer, i'd rather see money spent on a quality striker. But he again has looked good.

Kenton reminds me of Mad Frankie. These signings bode well for the Summer signings. ;-)

In what way does Kenton remind you of Mad Frank? Do you think we'll sign him full time? Mad Frank's run at Arsenal to set up Dickov for the goal at the end of last season was incredible.

His style is much like a young Frank. He would be a useful signing though I think if we get in the PL he is never going to be more than a squad player.

Don't see the same physical prescence, but I think I know what you mean.

Is it worth buying him then? I wouyld suggest not unless we sell/kick out Canero or Stewart.

He'd be better to have than Canero whose done nothing. think he'll be off in the summer, but then we've still got stearman....

I think Wright, Heath, Stewart, and if we can find some who will take permanently injured players, Morris and Canero are all good candidates for transfer this Summer.

I would like to see Stewart stay - and think he will. Heath to cov?! Wouldn't be disappointed to see the others leave

Can't see Kenton coming here permanently to be a Squad player,he'd want to be first choice and i can't see that happenung.I think CL got him as cover and doesn't have an intention of signing him permanently.Canero may not be needed as a Right Back but he may be used as a Right winger if he is ever fully fit.

i'd like to see stewart stay, on his day he is a good player, when it isnt his day we all know what he is like. but in the big picture at this level we need a player who can change a game and he is capable of doing so if he gets in a good run of form

Stewart for me seems to be one of the very few players in our squad who will run TOWARDS goal when he has the ball rather than to the flanks... Connolly does it alot, he gets the ball around the center circle and he will drift to the flanks...
Besides, I think someone has commented that Stewart always give 110%, which you cannot ask more of from a player, obviously if he isn't up to it even with 110% then shift him off, but he clearly can be a good palyer and hopefully, CL can Gillespie-ise Stewart.

I can't see why Stewart would be a candidate for transfer anyway, Levein has played him in almost every game he's been in charge of, the ones he hasn't played him in is either because of injury or tactical reason. He's frequently said that he's quite impressed by Jordan too and thinks he can make him better.

i must say I sincerely hope so.

So, what do we think then? Basically, we're not sure about Stewart, but what do we think of the CL buys? Apart from a few of you we are declining to comment really.. I'll take that as positive.

CL's buys are better than MA's buys

Damn good answer. I would suggest that is totally correct Step, even the good signings MA made were tainted by their ridiculous contracts. Might have been Bassett that though...I think Williams, Gudjohnsson and Connolly could come right though.

.. makes me look forward to the Summer and remember he said he wants to try and get everyone in before pre-Season training starts. ;-)
