That's not right Boc. It's commonly known that you only need the first and last letter in the correct positions but you still need all of the other letters inbetween!
On your information, you should be able to understand this:
I tk yu ae a ce ad ur wr (bt yu ct rd ts so it dt ry mr ay)

I think you are a complete and utter wanker.
Theory disproved :icon_wink
It's commonly known that to read a word in its context, it's usually only necessary to look at the first and last letter. The Mercury are simply taking advantage of that fact and saving themselves a huge quantity of the letter t. You might think that a single letter t is hardly worth saving but when you add them all together, it will come to quite a handy sum.
They got the idea from Leicester City Football Club who considered it too much bother to reduce their prices to reflect the new VAT rate, suggesting that people are hardly likely to miss the few pence that it would save them.
It has not yet been announced whether the Mercury will be donating the surplus letters to charity.
I've done a search on google for some hard data on this theory and have found none. Can you provide any evidence or research to back up your theory? I told some blokes at work about it and they told me I was a spazz. When I prove them wrong they'll be laughing on the other side of their fat faces. Mother****ers. I ejaculate in the communal milk.
