Wigan are doing brilliantly in the premiership, and in the Connolly transfer there was an extra million for us if they stayed up. When the January transfer window opens, and Wigan are, say, still in the top 10, do the board make that money available. I know we wont actually get the money until the end of the season, but if Wigan keep performing and the Williams transfer goes through, CL should have some money in the kitty to spend. Hearts are in trouble, maybe CL could even nick another player like Rudi Skael (sp) from hearts, or sign Ryan smith permanently..? Ok maybe I am over exaggerating and we probably cant attract these kind of players but there are still some places in the squad that could be strengthened. Will CL spend in January or wait until the summer???

I cant see Ryan Smith signing for us permenantly, there are too many premiership clubs looking at him, unfortunately just a different league to us at the moment. To be fair, I cant see much of that million being made available, not with the poor attendances etc this season, probably just go into the accounts to help balance the books - business first!

I can't imagine they'd give him the extra million to spend in January.. Even if Wigan are still doing well then, anything can happen in the second half of the season.
Besides, that £1m from Wigan at the end of the season will probably be almost our whole transfer budget for next season. Don't forget the parachute payments stop at the end of the season, and we therefore need to cut the wage bill a fair bit again. CL might not see any of that £1m as a transfer budget, so that he doesn't have to cut the wage bill as much..

i would have thought the club would have set the budget with shit attendance in mind, our attendance last season was very poor, with ticket prices to blame for many people, this season it is pretty much the same

I think its best if we wait til the summer before we count stock of what money we have to spend on new players. even if wigan are in the top 3 at the turn of the year it is not something our club can afford to take a chance upon. besides are we even gonna have 1 million just lying around that we can use knowing that we have another million coming our way.

fairplay to Wigan it's nice to see a promoted side doing so well, it gives you hope that we could perhaps emulate that when we get promoted again.

whos williams going to ?????????

no offence but smith and skael are hardly likely to join us

williams is supposedly going to man city, hopefully it will go through before stuart pearce gets his television fixed or looks at williams in action this year

I have heard (yes I know...) that Williams has a sell-on clause attached by the tribunal at the time of his transfer to us. This seems plausible as it would be a logical way of mollifying the selling club with an implied "Well, if he's as good as you think he is...". So this would lessen any money available. Anyway, can anyone really see a Prem club going for Williams, he's pretty ineffective and can't even get in our side?

LCFC would be crazy to assume Wigan's survival in January and spend the cash.

Best we could hope for regarding Smith is keeping him for another season, that said in 5 games time we might not want him...he might be shite.

I honestly dont think that Man City would be interested in Williams, he isnt the type of player pearce would go for!

Also he hasnt really played and when he has hes been avearge, so i cant see a big queue of teams waiting to sign him

As others have said, I think that million will go towards our short-fall this year, and probably towards some players contracts so we don't have to sell players in the summer.

From what i have seen the chances of him turning out shite are very slim.....different class of player in my opinion!

Where is the concrete evidence that we will get a million pounds if they stay up? Its all bloody hearsay as far as I can tell! I'm sure any clause will be performance/goal related.

Given that he is not anywhere near the first team and has scored but one goal, I can't imagine us getting very much.

We all heard there was a clause, it just seems to me that everyone has invented its terms. The fact of the matter is that we do not know what conditions are attached.

I would be very surprised to see the current board make the same mistakes made by it's predecessors, of spending money in advance of it's reciept, was this not the actions that eventually led to us entering administration.

I also agree that the majority of the 1 million, if we do recieve any additional monies will be used to bridge any shortfall in the budget for next year. I have to say that the financial management of the club at present appears to be in relatively safe hands, the board appear to be sensible in their budgeting and the expenditure.

With the help of our shrewd manager dare i say;)

I agree Brauny, but again it showed how the board operate and the fact they appointed a manager in CL who has operated under these constraints before and was prepared to do so again. I know the board has come in for a fair amount of stick especially over the pricing of tickets, some of it may be justified, but overall, and bearing in mind the situation they inherited, I have been impressed with their work so far and have great faith in the board and current manager to secure the medium and long term future of our club.

Here!

Still don't think we will or should spend it in January though!!

Wiganhave 22 points at the moment - they probably need another 16-20 to be safe, so they may even get there before the transfer window.

I think most of the money will be used to counter the low attendances this season, which appear to be at least 2k down per game so far on last season, maybe more.

Unless we get a lot of injuries in one position, it would not be wise to spend a lot of money in January - we need to see if this team can develop any consistency and form yet.

Yeah i agree, rather than thinking of who we can bring in the concentration should be on the team and them being just that 'a team', who know each others games and ultimately gel together to be a promotion pushing force!

I think the potential is there and once things settle we will be flying high!
