Long-serving Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has signed a new deal with the Football Club, keeping him at King Power Stadium until at least June 2027, subject to Premier League approval.

The tough tackling and combative midfielder, who was a key part of the team that won promotion to the Premier League as Championship winners last season, has made 273 appearances for City in all competitions, scoring 17 goals.

Since joining from Belgian side Genk in January 2017, the Nigeria international has lifted the Emirates FA Cup, FA Community Shield and most recently, the Championship title with the Club. His new contract would extend his stay at Leicester City beyond a decade.

Speaking to LCFC.com, Ndidi said: “I feel great, I feel excited, I feel at home. That’s the most important thing. I feel really happy to continue with the Club. My family is settled here and everyone back home, when they say Ndidi, they say Leicester also! It’s really amazing to be a part of this journey going forward.”

Born in Lagos, Nigeria, Ndidi began his career with Nathanial Boys, before moving to Europe to join Genk, where he impressed with his performances in the Belgian First Division A and UEFA Europa League, resulting in a move to Filbert Way in January 2017.

He made his debut for City in a 2-1 victory against Everton at Goodison Park and in a sensational first campaign, was named Young Player of the Year after just four months with the Football Club, as well as representing the team in the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League.

Ndidi’s performances continued to impress, and he would again win the Club’s Young Player of the Year Award on the way to helping the Club earn back-to-back fifth place finishes in the Premier League and lift both the FA Cup and Community Shield in the years that followed.

At international level, Ndidi’s talents have also been recognised. He has won 58 caps with Nigeria, including those earned while representing the Super Eagles at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

He’ll now rejoin his Leicester City team-mates in preparation for the opening Premier League game of the season against Tottenham Hotspur at King Power Stadium on Monday 19 August.

Hope we’ve not spaffed an enormous salary on him

WOTS is it's £75k a week, which I suppose isn't that much (!)
No, not that much. It is not quite £4million a year.
Well he won’t have to pay more income tax, but I am sure all the football tax advisers will be making recommendations about hiding their money and moving their assets to safe places for when Rachel Reeves comes calling soon.

It is when your totally skint, facing a 10/15 point penalty, and then almost certain relegation, and it’s for three years

Almost certainly reduced if we go down.

How much would a replacement cost us?

Or do we stick with what we've got and play Choudhury in his position?

I think that this reflects really well on Steve Cooper.
Agreed. Wilf will have had suitors from both the EPL and abroad, he's now of an age where the contract after this one is likely to be his last big one so what he sees as his prospects from here with this management will have been critically important to his decision

Badly needed. Great news

News like this is starting to make me feel more positive about the new season.

Hopefully Cooper gets him back to playing at least near his best in his natural defensive mid position - because we're going to need to be solid defensively this season.

Not one other club would offer him what he's on here.

Yep but they're in the financial shit because of the stupid way they've spent their money, so it's not beyond the realms of possibility that they would pay that, even now.

There’s not been a hint from the Premier League of our ‘impending’ punishment .
Just people and their own thoughts

10/15 point deduction???????
Bit dramatic.

Our breaches are higher than those that have gone before

They complied with the process - we’ve raised facile legal objections from day one

They’ll throw the book at us - ten points, in my opinion
