Odds from #####. Will be refunded if no match takes place. Don't know what will happen if Murray withdraws after 1 game - Boc?

Lapentti will win. Bets on Murray will lose. Bets on Lapentto will win.

I beg to differ on your interpretation of this. If a player starts a game but retires, the game is complete. Your interpretation would only stand for abandoned matches.

The part of the rules that would apply in the suggessted scenario reads, " In the event of a change in the total number of sets played match bets will stand, but set betting will be void."

I think your interpretation is wrong.

I've looked it up at other bookmakers too. For example this comes from Betinternet.com:

"A tennis match is deemed to have started with the first serve of the match. If the statutory number of sets is not completed then “Match Betting”, “Handicap”, “Set Betting” , “Total Number of Games in the Match”, “Total Number of Games in the First Set” and “Total Number of Games in the Second Set” will be void."

I've found one that has slightly different rules - but not so different that they would affect the Muurray match:

"2 full sets must be completed without either player retiring or being disqualified"

I think this is more due to those occasions where matches are changed from being five set matches to three set matches - for example in the Davis cup where 'dead' rubbers get changed to three sets.

Selective quoting :icon_roll

The full quote from WillHill's rules: "In the event of a change in the total number of sets played match bets will stand, but set betting will be void.
For example, a match originally designated as 'best of 5 sets' reduced to 'best of 3 sets' because of inclement weather."

If a player retiures hurt, the match has not been completed, so the bet is void.

Looks like the match void thing if a player retires hurt came about to prevent match fixing, so players couldn't bet on their opponent then retire with an pretend injury.
They could still fix a match by deliberately playing badly, but I guess it's harder for players to convincingly play badly than it is for them to fake an injury.
