Congratulations are due to Leicester A who today won the WorldNET plate with a 2-0 win over Darlington.

Day One had been a pretty disastrous day for both teams with only a solitary win between the two teams - and that a 2-0 win over Brentford in the Group 9 wooden spoon decider, meaning that both A and B found themselves in the Plate competition for the Day Two.

With the Plate kicking off early this morning, the management duo must have been wondering if they had spread the squads to thinly and must have been wishing that they had the extra two hours in bed which comes from a better Saturday performance. They must have been encouraged though when both the A and the B sides progressed through the 1st round with fairly comfortable looking 3-goal margins.

That was as far as it went for the B team though; the 2nd round saw them crashing out to Fulham Ancients on the wrong end of a 4-1 score-line. The A team went on though, with wins over Airdire and Stockport B bringing them into the semi-final.

The scene seemed set for the possibility of an interesting fixture in the final with Leicester A and Dundee United contesting one semi, whilst Fulham Ancients took on Darlington in the other - would the A team get a change to avenge the defeat of the second string a few hours earlier? In the event it was not to be; our lads got past Dundee with a fairly healthy looking 3-1 victory but the veterans suffered defeat to the team from the north-east by a single goal.

And so at 4 o'clock, a time when Leicester teams are normally well on their way down the M1 if not already home, the stage was set for the InternetFoxes first ever final at WorldNET. Nobody should dare to say that it was only the plate because there are still some great teams that find themselves in the plate. And today the greatest of them all proved to be the team that beat Darlington by two goals in the final game. Let's hear it for LEICESTER A - winners of the 2007 Sports Interactive Plate!

A worthy win for the A squad, and a very brave performance from the B team as well.

A week ago we had a healthy squad of 39 players for the 2 teams, what we actually ended up with was about 27 on Saturday, and down to 23 today (including 1 who is 61!).
