OK you Xbox/Techie nuts...

Got a 360 for xmas, came with the composite cable so that I can use the HD. However this will only allow me to output to my TV at 1080i (My tv supports 1080p according to the manual). Is this a case of me needing to get the Xbox HDMI cable or my TV manual lying about what it supports? Also is the quality any better? And is it true that if I use the HDMI cable it will no longer upscale my DVD's as it does now with the Composite cable?

Cheers ducks

My take...

-You need the HDMI
-You won't notice the difference unless your TV is TRUE 1080p rather than just upscaling.
-Your DVD's will no longer upscale.
-Its not worth it IMO :)

Cheers me dears that's what I thought, glad I didn't wast my money. It is true 1080p but the only reason I wanted it was to see the difference, as I can't upscale my DVD's it rules it out.

what the hell is the difference between 1080i and 1080p-not that its of any relevance to myself as i play my 360 through my pc monitor with a vga cable (or summit like that)

1080i(nterlaced) and 1080p(rogressive) are the two different types of higher resolution HD (the lower being 720). It basically means they have 1080 horizontal lines compared to 720 (and I think 480 on a normal TV) so a higher resolution. The difference between the i and the p is I think that interlaced shows 2 images of 540 lines fast enough to appear as one, and progressive just shows 1 image, but I could be way off on that!

One is more expensive

Sounds about right!!!

I may be wrong in saying this, as I am yet to get a jooovce luc-er-du turve ready for the hu-duh, but I'm pretty sure that most 360 games are in 720p anyway and it is best to play them in this resolution.

Anyone with a HD tried this?

I only have COD4, Fifa07 and Halo 3 but they all come with 1080p resolution (actually Fifa07 maybe 1080i). I have tried them at all 3 (480,720 and 1080i) and the difference as you go up is noticeable

Ive not yet experienced 1 game that doesnt work in 1080i. I've probably had 10 games.

Fair enough, just thought I read it one time on a forum.

Maybe it was just some of the earlier games or maybe I was completely imagining it! :icon_lol:
