My pride and joy is a collection of photos of historic architecture - literally thousands in folders with labels like Gothic or Victorian. I suddenly find that when I close one photo it closes the whole folder. This has happened quite suddenly and for no apparent reason.. So I close one photo of say Gloucester Cathedral intending to the next and the whole Gothic folder closes. I have tried shutting down the computer and System Restore to no avail. Advice would be welcome.

David, are you saying that you are clicking through folders via File Explorer to find photo files, then opening a photo in the Photos application, and then when you close the Photos application you are taken back to the root folder in File Explorer?

If so, what happens when, whilst viewing a photo in the Photos application, you press the right arrow key on your keyboard? Does this take you to the next photo?

I am using Photos in Windows 10.

If you are exiting the photo using the 'X' in the top right, you are exiting the Photos application rather than just the photo you are viewing.

If you wish to go back to the folder/album the photo was in, use the back arrow in the top left corner instead.
