Alright chaps, I finally passed my driving test the other day and obviously am looking at buying a car. I have my heart set on getting a Ford Puma, basically I want to know if it's likley that I will be able to get insurance for one of these as some of them have a 1.7 engine and the car is in a high insurance category. I have checked search sites like confused.com and moneysupermarket.com and the cheapest I have found is around £1300-1400 fully comp for a 1.7 Ford Puma. I thought that was pretty good especially considering Churchill would charge me a similar amount for a 1.4 fiesta. Any tips or recommendations for good insurance suppliers or even good cars for a driving newbie to start on?

Good car. surprised the insurance is that cheap to be honest.

That was a quote I got using MoneySuperMarket and it is with Liverpool Victoria. I think the next best was around £1800 with elephant.co.uk

Like I say I'd really like one of these I just didn't know if I'd get insured for one being a new driver, but I am 24 so the age is with me a bit atleast.

Much agreed. If that's what you want, I don't think you'll find it better anywhere else. It cost £1100 for a 1.4 Corsa, I now pay £990 because I passed my pass plus and presented this to Directline. Which is nice because I now pay just under a hundred pounds a month.

It's paid for itself - 3 lessons @ £20 quid = £60 quid and it's saved me £140 quid.

Also household savings are handy as well.

Also mate if you have a bird (or your mum) and they have at least a provisional stick them down as a named driver with you as the main driver it will save you money!
