I was runner up in the school chess tournament. Beaten in the final by my best friend.

That was around 40 years ago though, and I've not played since.

I can play and was in a Chess club when younger.
Those games where the opponent pushes the King over in dramatic style are the best though.
Although when it was a mate of mine who beat me 3 times on the trot and I did that the other pieces went crashing off the table as well

At primary school I came 2nd in the county chess championship. I lost to a lad who played for England in the final. Our school team also got to the last 8 in the country.

I haven’t played since I left though, and I’m 44 now, so suspect my childhood ability has eroded somewhat.
