El Dude Brother.
I need to transfer some files from an old knackered PC to a new laptop. I know Windows Xp has a files and settings transfers wizard which looks just the job but do I use a Patch or an Xover network cable to connect the 2?

if you have a network LAN cable anywhere just connect the two together and create a network on the main pc. Should allow you to transfer anything then by mapping across a network drive. I think.

Thats what I was suggesting I do :icon_lol: But do I use a patch or xover LAN cable?

no fecking idea. whats the difference?

Ethernet crossover cables are most often used in home networks when connecting two ethernet computers without a hub. An Ethernet crossover cable has it's send and receive wires crossed. When using a hub or switch, this is automatically done for you.

if you are connecting 2x PCs directly to each other you need a Xover cable.
If they are connecting via a router or hub you need to use a straight ethernet patch cable.
