County season starts - Hants (a) CC

County championship starts tomorrow. For some foolish reason I am in optimistic mood about this season not being quite so terrible with the signings we have made. We need Cobb, O'Brien, Sarwan/Burns, Naik, Hoggard and Ireland to be a solid core of the team and need to see Smith, Thakor and Buck really stepping up. For Smith and Buck it is make or break this season, surely.

However I know that will soon evaporate when we are 150 all out tomorrow, our young bowlers prove as ineffective as all the others, when Naik and Thakor get injured and we have to bring in some random journeymen on loan to fill up the side......

As frustrating as it is I doubt the Riders could do much better. Probably have a few decent pace bowlers though to be fair.

Rain and Ned's innings yesterday salvaged a draw. Very bad luck for Eckersley, but was listening to the commentary last night and he and Thakor ran 2 with 3 balls left when a single would have put him on strike for his ton!
